At silly-o-clock, I went in search of some numerical emoticons to countdown the days until Cheery collects her new hens but have not found any as yet.  But, I did come across this sweet little guy so I couldn't resist posting him on the thread - Awww bless him

This has nothing to do with hens but is a fabulous emoticon.  Please feel free to copy it if you like.

Lol you lot! How lovely that you're keeping a hen countdown on here, what an absolutely marvellous idea! Yes, 23 days to go now, hooray!

Lovely pics edwink! Love the one of you growing hens in the dustbath, how lovely.

No exciting stories here I'm afraid. We've had no trouble getting bedding and food from our usual supplier (British Hen Welfare Trust), in fact I ordered more corn and some layers mash (as opposed to pellets) for the new ladies yesterday. They'll get used to pellets in time, but they will have been fed mash so far so this should help with the transition apparently. Ours have been quite lazy in the hot weather - we had our first visitors the other day and they just wandered around idly pecking and occasionally sitting on them :joy:

We have a swing seat in the garden, and they quite often spend a lot of time under there - it's sheltered, we've put a log for them to stand on, and we're often sitting there ourselves and they like to be near us. This morning we looked out of the window to see Beaky sitting ON the swing, swaying back and forth in the wind :joy: They often jump up when we're there, but we've never seen them just standing on the swing on their own :joy: Funny little things.

    Will post some pictures later!

Ok, here are a couple - Beaky sat in their favourite dust bath area, and Bessie trying to steal my breakfast 😂

    That's close!
    Beak to beak! 😁

Talking of beaks......do the batteries trim their beaks to stop them pecking each other? That beak looks like it has been stopped short.

And being nosy........what do you look out for on your look-out platform? 😁😁😁
    Advancing cow hordes? 😂

That is one super healthy looking hen Cheery.  Her red comb resembles the one on the cornflake packet, that's how I like mine to look.  What a face, bless her.  I've got some closeups somewhere on my laptop I'll have a search for them.

Super healthy looking she may have been edwink, but she's not very well today sadly... Noticed earlier she was breathing quite heavily, and we thought she'd been looking a bit stiff for the last couple of days but still keeping up with the others.

We've had her inside this afternoon and given her a bath, and I think she might be egg bound 😕 Her abdomen is quite swollen 😕 We've put her in with the others for the night, didn't seem much point keeping her in here, but I've just been to shut them in and she's just standing in the hen house, not settled in a nest box like usual 😢

Vets first thing I think 😢 Can't have another one die so soon 😢
