Thanks folks. We're back from the vets, Beaky most indignant at having antibiotics and anti inflammatories. Vet said her abdomen feels 'doughy' so it may be egg related - she's had egg issues before. She's obviously not feeling that bad as she proper objected to going in the carrier, and was quite cross when we let her out... so 😂 We'll see over the next few days...
Let’s hope she doesn’t put her monster beak to good use on you in revenge, then!

Aww, bless her Cheery and bless you by the sound of it too.  I've had a few angry hens at the vets over the years so I know how angry they can get when they feel like it.  One of my hens pinched my hand with her beak and wouldn't let go of my skin, boy did it bruise not to mention hurt, little devil she was.  Other hens we have taken were as good as gold and behaved impeccably.

I do hope she will be ok Cheery.  Do let us know how she is when you can.  Take care x

These are the black/grey eggs that little Hoppy lays.  She is a Cayuga duck that has black feathers.

These are the eggs that hens lay when they are 2+ years old.  They are not all like this, most are smooth and look like shop bought eggs.  When cracked they still look like a normal egg inside, the only difference is that the outer shell is wrinkled and/or freckled.

    Interesting eggs.

Also interesting that they can go wrinkly with the age of the hen!

    Hi everyone

All going ok with my girls here.  Lots and lots and lots of dust bathing going on which is great. Because the soil is so dry as soon as the girls see me coming they leap up from dust bathing, have a good shake and I get covered in dust.  I don't mind at all because at least they are keeping enjoying what they doing and keeping themselves clean and mite free. I'll try and get a picture later or tomorrow so you can see what I mean.

How is Beaky now Cheery? Any better on the meds from the vets?.  I do hope she is making progress now, bless her  :)

Glad I finally managed to get the duck and hens egg pictures on here at long last, there will be no stopping me now posting pictures  :D   I just think it makes the thread more interesting, to be honest.

I hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

    Edwink x

Edwink, with or without egg pictures, your thread is very interesting, and I speak as one who has never owned hens, and isn’t ever likely to, but I have learned so much about these poor creatures who are treated so badly by a species who should know better, supposedly being of higher intellect, etc.

The egg pictures were very interesting, though!

    Do keep the info coming!

I wasn't sure how to do a double quote so I am hoping that this will work, fingers crossed.

Thank you both of you it is lovely that you find our hen thread interesting and enjoy reading it.  So kind of you to post and join in too.

ETA..... Yay the double quote worked, you learn something every day!
