In photobucket (and I would guess other photo hosting sites are similar) to the RHS of the photo are some boxes with links in. To insert a photo into a post on MSE I copy the 'direct link' by clicking on it.
When composing a post on MSE I click on the insert image button and then paste the 'direct link' info in the box that pops up.
Hope you can get it to work - I'd love to see photos of your girls.
Sadly never worked for me - I tried! Other people can do it, either I'm daft or could it be my browser?
Some ducks have moulted by now and are looking lovely and shiny, the elderly hen has also started to lose "tons" of feathers. Isn't it quite early for moult? I hope that doesn't mean we are going to get a hard and early winter :eek:First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
My girls love sliced courgette
which is good as our plants are extremely prolific! They also adore tomatoes, strawberries, rice, cauliflower, spinach, lettuce, and of course, mealworms
. They aren't laying terribly well at the moment .. Either that, or they're laying elsewhere in the garden, and we just haven't found them yet! A few are a bit old now too. Love them tho

My ladies fight over blueberries and anything purple or red in colour. I didn't think they could see colour until they one by one made a bee-line to peck at my ruby ring when I was stroking them (get me - I'm so brave now!). They don't like spaghetti though, or sprouts (not surprising).
I also haven't had any eggs for a few days now and wondering what the reasons might be? Plenty of food, sunlight, shelter and treats, so not sure why there's a strike? Any suggestions gratefully received x0 -

Hi
All hens will peck at the colour red. If one of your hens has blood on their body for any reason such as they have cut themselves this must be covered as soon as possible otherwise the other hens will peck at it and hurt the hen. We use a spray called Poultry Septi-Cleanse which is a wound management spray. When you spray it on it is purple which will stop the other girls pecking at the wound on the hen. It is a an instant bactericidal wound spray to use on fresh wounds. It is very effective. We have a rescue hen that has never grown the feathers back at the bottom of her back it is just bare flesh. The other hens occasionally peck her on her bare flesh even though it is not red but pink. So every now again we give her a little spray to stop the other hens pecking her. It really works well.
Another colour hens like for some reason is gold, yes really, gold. If you try and put your hand near one of your hens whilst wearing a gold ring they won't peck your hand but they will try and peck your ring. Mine do it to me all the time. I am sitting there with them saying "have a piece of cucumber, come on here you are" but, all they are interested in is my blooming ring. Bless them.
Dizzy Imp you have come such a long way with your hens. Next you will be picking them up and sitting them on your lap for a cuddle. Go for it I say, they are so cuddly and warm, honest.

Thanks very much Better Days I will try and give that a go as soon as I get time. Sounds a bit confusing if I am honest. I used to be very up on this old computer malarkey but now I am rather rusty. Some things I find really simple to pick up but others drive me mad. I was nearly pulling my hair out trying to get a photo on here of my girls. I can attach photos to my emails etc. But, I think it is totally different for a chat forum.
Thanks again

If you have a rummage through the posts you may find out why you are having problems. It is a bit of a faff but can be done quickly when you get the hang of it.
Sadly one of our hens passed away late this morning. :A She had been a bit off colour for a couple of days but was still eating her sweetcorn and spaghetti yesterday. Thanks for all the eggs Henrietta. :A
We only have one left now from the four we re-homed from the BHWT in January 2014. At least they had two summers with the sun on their backs and the wind ruffling their feathers (plus a daily treat of sweetcorn and spaghetti). They spent as long with us as they did in the battery farm, so half of their lives were lived as hens are meant to live. Every hen should experience the excitement of finding fresh worms and treats of chopped grapes and sweetcorn.
Now down to three hens - Jemima, Maltida and the Henforcer. Keeping an eye on the BHWT website for the next rehoming date in our area.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Poor Henrietta bless you. Glad you enjoyed your retirement with fresh air, sun and plenty of treats.
Better Days, I know what it is like to loose a very well loved hen. Doesn't get any easier each time does it? So sad xxx
Thanks for the info and the links. I really appreciate the time you have taken to help me. Still have not managed to have a go at getting the photos on yet. Been out to collect wild damsons today for jam making and now have the job of stoning them all and getting them in to the jam pan and on to the stove. Just sat down with a cuppa so the job will have to wait a bit, only a bit.

Mant thanks, edwink, for the links to photo threads, will check them out when i have a quiet moment!
So sad to hear about Henrietta. Do you have any idea why? We had gapeworm earlier in the year and I only understood the symptoms when the 2nd came down with the same. At least we could save her then....each time one of them goes it's hard, they are all petsFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0 -
