2,120 Days to Debt Freedom!!

3.8K Posts

I needed a bit of a kick up the backside, so thought a new diary might help.
I've worked out that it's exactly 2,120 days until my 40th birthday, and despite having Cystic Fibrosis, I plan on still being here and going strong by then.
I also think that's a realistic target for me to get debt free (I owe around £42k
). I've got a bucket list and would like to complete that in this time too.
A little about me: I'm Emily, 34 and I was diagnosed with CF when I was around 6 weeks old. I'm fairly lucky with it because I'm not in and out of hospital all the time, but I've been a bit slack with my treatments recently, so need to make an effort to be compliant.
I'm engaged to my OH, who I have been with for 14 years. I've also got a part-time job in a local shop. I wish I could have a high paying job and career, but my illness doesn't allow it. I think I do pretty well with my 18.5 hours a week (usually more with overtime).
So there we have it. I'll be back with my bucket list and some other stuff.

We're with you all the way, not just in fulfilling your aim to be debt free but in ticking off as many items on your bucket list as possible:beer:. Knowing you, it won't be lack of will, effort or determination that stops you doing them all, it will probably be because of lack of money. There just never seems enough to go round, does there:(?
You've inspired me to work out how many days it will take me to become debt free:T, though life has a nasty habit of throwing a spanner in the works and derailing even the best laid plans:mad:.
Go Andy today! He'll have his work cut out with Karlovic so I hope his shoulder problem was just temporary. He should beat him though and the home support and atmosphere promises to be brilliant.
Crossed a few things off my list already, but they were the easy ones. It has taken a bit of time to do my meds this morning, so won't get the chance to do anything else today (got to get ready for work).
I'll concentrate on the eMystery Shopper jobs tomorrow and try and get those finished.
CBC - I hope you enjoy watching the tennis today. Please cheer Andy on for me, as I'll be at work

Letting Agent: Hi Emily, do you want to stay at the property then?
Me: Umm, yes, of course.
LA: Well it has been put back on the market and re-let.
Me: WHAT???????????!!!!!!!!!!
We've had no notice, no letters asking if we want to stay - absolutely no communication from them whatsoever. The worst thing is that they must have been showing people around this place without us knowing, just letting themselves in when we've been at work or out elsewhere!!
To say I was livid is an understatement. The woman I spoke to didn't know why it has been re-let to someone else, because the bloke that dealt with it wasn't there yesterday. I unfortunately didn't have time to argue as I had to be at work. A message was left on my voicemail asking me to call them back, which I will be doing at 8.30am on the dot when they open this morning.
So I have no idea whether we are being chucked out or not. All I know is that we have been good tenants, always paid our rent on time for the past 2 years, always been around for inspections, workmen etc, and we get treated like this.
:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I just hope you can get it sorted out quickly but it must be giving you and OH so much unneeded stress.
Surely they can't just do this without prior notice of their intention to relet. There must be someone you can get to fight this decision. Do tenants have any legal rights?
Not only did they fail to inform you (they surely have records that they did if they trot out the old excuse/lie that they sent emails/letters etc which you ignored) but they brought strangers into your home uninvited. Isn't that a privacy issue?
Thinking of you today, Emz. If anyone can get it sorted it will be you:A
Thanks CBC. I'm just waiting for that clock to hit 8.30 and I'll let rip at them!!
We've looked at the property advertised on their website and it says the flat is available 'mid July'. So clearly there are some other people who are all packed up and expecting to move in here in a couple of weeks!!
We've had no notice from them, and I think by law they have to give at least 2 months (my old place was 3 months - the contract we have now just states 'reasonable notice'). They also have to give us at least 24 hours notice 'in writing' before they enter the property. They also need our permission to do so, which they clearly didn't get. They have basically broken the law.
Problem is now, and I know my OH feels the same, I can't trust them. I'll constantly be thinking 'are they going to come over and let themselves in?', 'are they going to re-let the property from under our feet without us knowing?'.
I'll keep you updated!!
