65000 miles a year

i wonder who even keeps cars in uk for that long since you guys change them like socks.
I don't know where you picked up that chip on your shoulder about us 'UK guys'; but your stereotype of the whole country as being composed only of 'posh' people who won't be seen in any car older than six months is as wrong as the view held by some that any immigrant from eastern Europe is here just to take British jobs from British workers and take advantage of our state welfare system.0 -
I don't know where "here" is, but I think there might be something lost in translation.
"Six years old" does not mean it's "old". We would say "two months old", too.
But expecting a 6yo (and what mileage already?) car to be low-maintenance for another 5yrs/325k miles (over 100k km/year)? No. That's not realistic.
I know what you mean
but honestly the cars after their 2-3year lease runs out are already super old for their previous owners -time for a change to a new reliable model which will get 20pounds cheaper tax and get 5mpg more , wow they will save soooo much that way :T 0 -
and I bought a 307SW that went on for years without anything other than consumables.
Nobody can guarantee a car will last/not cost money outwith buying new and having warranty (though not always issue free either!)
Good to see what i said being backed up, even though i was described as an "idiot" by someone who recommends a Skoda but dissed a VW. :rolleyes:0 -

My little 307 was bought on eBay blind.
It was a poor listing and I took a gamble. I got a 307SW for a bargain price with FSH. Never let me down with dogs abuse.
Only thing that killed it was the glass roof cracked (never broke 2 years later) but it meant it wasnt worth putting money into it when the clutch wore out.
Great wee car.0 -
Having said 'avoid french', I have a taxi driver friend who's renault is on 250k, looks immaculate and runs perfectly.0

OP sounds like a airport transfer driver. Other than that I'd hate to be stuck in a car for 65K miles a year.0

Another vote for a VW 1.9 TDI or similar. 155k on the clock and still going very strong.
Mine had 250k on clock when I sold it and it was still going strong. Used it for a year adding 20k miles and no major issues other than normal servicing.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
It would be handy if the OP could give a clue as to the use the vehicle is needed for.
But I would be sorely tempted to buy brand new via DrivetheDeal and only purchase a vehicle with an unlimited miles warranty.
Car will likely have any glitches and issues sorted when under warranty and then a further 2 years after that.
Car will then have 300k on it and have no resale value so you could then run it into the ground until something expensive goes wrong.
If that sounds too expensive then buy an ex lease high miler for £5/6k and run it for as long as it lasts.0 -
the warranty will not cover business use will it?0
