65000 miles a year
Can anybody advise on a car to last me around 2/3 years to do 65k a year, ive been using hire cars and changing every few weeks. now the terms have changed at work so need to buy. im considering 2 options 1 is to buy a £5000 car that will last a year
2 is to buy a £10000 car to last 2/3 years
it needs to have 4/5 doors be able to carry comfortably 3 in rear and do 65+mpg. Thank you

I don't see any reason why a £5000 or less car shouldn't last the full 2/3 years at least. Any car is going to have starship mileage and be worth very little by the time you're done with it so why sink an extra £5k into it? Unless you want to, of course. You need a repmobile of some description, though I have no interest in repmobiles so couldn't really offer any sensible suggestions!0

might sound stupid question but what is a repmobile? i bought a £4000 307sw 3 years ago with 92k on clock and it cost me a fortune in repairs in 2 years i ended up selling for £1000 but paid out lots.0

Repmobile is a term for cars used by sales reps. Vauxhall Insignia, Ford Mondeo, BMW 3 or 5 series, etc.0

I'd be buying a Skoda or VW with the 1.9TDI engine.
Keep it well serviced - probably every 10K max - and well maintained.
Something like this....

Insignias take flywheels regularly and i dont really rate the engine.
BMW 320d - you'll be getting an older higher miles car for your money and they're prone to turbo problems and timing chain issues
Mondeo 2.0TD - injectors are pricey and they take floating flywheels
VW 2.0 TDI can be a bit of a pig.
Peugeot / Ford / Citroen / Volvo 1.6 TDI - awful engine
Peugeot 2.0HDI - decent enough, but prone to flywheel failure. I'd probably go for one in a 307 rather than a 407 as i've found they're a bit fragile and prone to electrical failure.
Renault 1.9 - ok ish, but their cars are prone to electrics problems
Renault 1.5 - pig of an engine0 -
a volvo with 5 cylinder diesel engine, manual and sensibly sized wheels, or Totota avensis
or something like this:

A peugeot is rarely if ever a good idea for such high mileage. An octavia, passat or avensis sound like a good idea. There's a good reason they're the minicab driver's choice.might sound stupid question but what is a repmobile? i bought a £4000 307sw 3 years ago with 92k on clock and it cost me a fortune in repairs in 2 years i ended up selling for £1000 but paid out lots.0 -
65k/year business use, employer not providing a car, needs to seat three in the back...?
You're a taxi driver, right?0 -
Civics are the repmobile of choice at my place of employment.Thinking critically since 1996....0

Vectra 1.8 petrol, £1000-£1500, cheap to run and repair and repeat every 18-24 months. That's what you do when clients aren't paying your travel, Jag when they are.0
