Hmmm, need to do a bit more thinking . I need a plan.
Hey P and F
Thank you x
I think we can all do more - that is the one thing I've learnt being on here. I read other's people's post and more often than not, I am in awe of people's creativity, innovation and determination at improving their situation.
I fully sympathise with your dilemma, as I am in the same position. Striking a balance is really tough not only in terms of debt vs house maintenance, but also considering savings and treats as no one can carry on without some entertainment in their life - and stay sane
You are clearly a thinking person, as am I (maybe too much at times!), and I know you will reach the happy medium.
IWBF xOn 23.6.15 I panicked when I realised I owed £37,311.62
I will be debt free [STRIKE]by July 2018[/STRIKE] as soon as I can. Current debt £26,473.73
I am now living within my means - without an overdraft and with a (YNAB) budget0 -
Oh and good luck with all the chores today!
Have a great one

Well, I've had a very busy day and got loads done. Didn't get everything done that I wanted to though, but it's fine, I did OK.
Did get a bit of Kondo-ing done, I have started to thoroughly enjoy finding things to throw out - which is good as I have TONS of stuff to get rid of :rotfl:.
Early night tonight I think, I'm a bit tired now.0 -
Here I am, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed on this August morning
.
I don't think the weather is going to be great today but it's not raining so far.Off to work in a minute, just thought I'd drop by and ramble on about nothing in particular.
I have been working hard the last few days and doing some voluntary work in the evenings so haven't tackled much money-saving. I know I need to come up with some plans and some targets for cash-raising. I also need to make decisions about paying off debt or getting some jobs done around the house - I may put these to the panel and see what you all think.
Another issue is trying to get DH on board a bit more - he has a large CC debt (much bigger than mine) which is not on 0% and which I've suggested numerous times he move (at least some of it) to a 0% card. He also continues to fritter money away without apparently worrying about it. I am sure his CC balance has gone up not down in the past year. Part of me says 'who cares, it's his problem' but really, it isn't just his problem. Another part of me is resentful when I try so hard to save money and he is flushing money down the drains of the local pub.
But anyway, I need to think about that a bit more and persevere. I have been trying to get him to give me a breakdown of his outgoings so I can do him a YNAB budget - our finances are entirely separate and we pay for different things.
We've both been foolish with money in the past but I've had my LBM and he hasn't yet.
Offski now, have a good day all you lovely MSE-ers.

Read your diary with interest and have subscribed. I am just starting to get into YNAB and can see how it helps keep track of spending but ours is pretty much cut to the bone already.
Good luck with getting your DH on board!Thank-you to everyone who posts comps :beer:0 -

Welcome in, Longships.
Haven't tried tackling DH again, will have another go at the weekend.
I am lucky in that I have a bit of leeway in my budget now - I can easily get from month to month and am building up small savings. But I really need to find some more money to a) throw at the debt b) get some jobs done around the house. Will have to work a bit harder on it.
YNAB is VERY useful for keeping track of spending, it helps me so much. It's especially handy for when one bit of spending was higher than anticipated - I know that extra cash is not going to magic itself out of thin air, so I adjust another part of the budget accordingly. Likewise, if something cost less, some cash can be diverted to a different budget (savings or debt usually). It's great.
Have had a busy week work wise, not done so much home-wise. Plan to get started on Kondo-ing some clothes this weekend, to be sorted into piles and removed from the house. Also have some stuff ready to take to the tip / charity shop.
Must go, work beckons, have a lovely Friday y'all.

Haven't been around for a few days - very busy and a bit knackered.
But just wanted to run in to say that I am now below the 11K mark, with less than 5K on credit cards .
It's still a scarily high amount but sooooo much better than it was.
Let's hope this rain stops some time soon. Feel so sorry for people who are trying to have a summer holiday in this biblical-style rain.
