I help the removal men load the van .I help them unload the van .
The last time I paid by the hour so no tea breaks .
If they helped me assemble the bed It was going to run into another hour .I could have done with a bit of help but I managed it myself ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -
Last time I had a fixed price, rather than by the hour. We offered hot drinks when they arrived, and then bacon rolls after an hour or so of loading. That went down very well. At the other end when they had finished we gave them a 12 pack of beer to take away. That cost about £12 I think but it looks quite generous handing over a case of beer! They were very happy with that.
Much better than worrying about how much cash to give.
We've also got builders in this week while it's been like a sauna and we have filled the fridge with cold juice and soft drinks which they love. I think gestures like this are much better than handing over money.0 -
I'm wary of tipping with cash in case it gets them in trouble, so I've always provided food. Our last move was at the end of March, and we gave the 3 guys plenty of tea and coffee, then popped out to the local greasy spoon and got them bacon rolls before we drove off. At the other end, we gave them a pack of beer to share between themselves, which seemed to be quite acceptable© Cuilean 2005. Any connection between your reality and mine is purely coincidental.0

Didn't tip mine. They were lovely but it cost 2K to move about half a mile so I felt we had paid enough.0

many thanks for all the advice above. Of course, we'll see how the move goes, but it helps to be prepared as much as possible. Fingers crossed I'll be thinking the service was so great a special thanks is needed at the end of the day.0

We paid £400 when we moved into our rented house in January, then paid the same company another £400 in June when moving into our new home.
I didnt tip, they had their own flasks of tea and own packed lunch and snacks to keep them going.
However there was a set of golf-clubs in the rented house's garage so we offered them to one of the lads and he happily took them.0 -
I gave mine £10 each - they were very efficient, and did an excellent job. I didn't feel I had to or that it was expected but an extra £40 for the guys doing the heavy lifting didn't seem excessive considering how much the move as a whole cost.
I also offered them tea, coffee and biscuits throughout - I'm a me not a we, but it wasn't that difficult - the kettle and mugs were in my 'do not pack - take in the car as the last thing' box and I just picked moments when I needed to be out of the way (for example, when the bed was being bought down the stairs)All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

Considering how much our solicitor is charging and they'll not be working up a sweat, I don't think I'll begrudge our movers a tenner each and a pot of tea for doing the double flight of stairs at our old house!
Mind you, we're moving over 200miles so I would imagine they'll stop along the way for something but I'll pack a tea box anyway0 -
I gave my removal guys a crate of beer because they had gone above and beyond the call of duty!!
