Yes - it is a user login....
You could try disabling it in Task Manager's Start-up tab. That won't actually uninstall anything but should stop the pop-up opening at start up.

Right-click the taskbar, select Task Manager and look at the Start-up tab. You may need to experiment with which program to disable until it stops happening.

    Edit
Once you have determined which program is responsible, you might be able to switch off the pop-up from that program's options.

I suspect there might be an option within Skype itself to stop it starting up with Windows, rather than killing it from Task Manager.

I'd be surprised if there isn't an icon for Skype in the System Tray at the bottom right of the screen? (You may need to click on the little up-arrow to see all icons.) Or you could search for Skype (possibly labelled as Lync) on your Start Screen and start it that way. With any luck there's an option there to stop it auto-starting.

I can get an icon in the system tray - but all that I can do is to get rid of the icon by right clicking on it - the progranm is still installed on my laptop
I am unable to modify the Office 2013 installation either - jusy delete the whole lot or nothing !!

Thanks - that was what I was trying to get at but didn't have Skype for Business in front of me to try it.

I assume you mean that it doesn't appear in Control Panel's Programs and Features list.

From the Win8 Start page, click on the down arrow, bottom left of the page, where you should find a list of all programs / apps installed. Right-click on any program / app and select Uninstall from the options if you want to uninstall it.

I have Win8 and as Consumerist says, if you go to the Start Page (click on the first icon on the left on your taskbar) then use the down arrow button, bottom right, it brings up all the icons and apps you have installed. if you scroll across Skype for Business is there!

What happens if you just start typing 'Skype' at the Start Screen? Also if you right-click (or possibly left-click) the icon in the taskbar, is there an option to Open it?
