£49 9" Portable DVD Player

What's the deal?

Tesco is selling the Technika 9" portable DVD player for £49, half Tesco's usual price in store. It's region 2 compatible meaning there's no need to hack it to view disks in the UK. This looks like it's already out of stock on the website; I have also tried both my nearest main stores and same situation I'm afraid

  • Does anyone know what the battery life is like and what type of batteries this uses?

I reckon that the fact that it is Region 2 only is a negative point on what is pretty good value player.

I can't tell the model number from the Tesco website but a hack is possibly listed here :

Just a note that all DVD players being sold in the UK by mainstream outlets will be region 2 compatible - this is not a feature.

Bought one today in the Borehamwood Store.
They had around ten units left, so get down there if you want one !!!
Seems a nice player, multi-region also plays DVD R discs.
Info in the instuctions say the battery lasts 2.5 hrs
If anyone whats any other info on the player let me know.

  • Blinko,

Now that you have one, could you tell us what model number it is so that we could look it up. Also, could you please list any of the accessories that did/didn't come with it. Many thanks.
  • Any chances this also plays DivX files?
  • I've managed to pick one up at Tesco Sandhurst. There are no accessories other than Mains Adaptor. So there's no in car charger or earphones. Not sure what else would be expected anyway.

The model No is PDVD908 and there are a couple on ebay. On one of them you need to search description as the model number is not in the item title.

Hope you can find one. There is no mention that it plays DivX files, but then I don't know what they are.
  • Even if it doesn't come with one, does anyone know if it's possible to buy a generic adaptor that will run this from a 12V cig socket in a car?
