Having spent a week on the island I can highly recommend Maui, beaches are quiet and no wild parties by the pool in the resort I was in.

If you find somewhere, could you let me know?

My son is 15 and i cant take him on holiday as he also has severe SA. Going to the airport is too much for him at the moment, but i hope one day for him to be able to go on holiday somewhere.

All i can think is to go somewhere off the beaten track, away from the typical tourist spots, hire a villa etc.

good luck, i hope you find somewhere.

You don't need to fly to go on holiday, even of you want to go abroad.

    Did you go by yourself?

The last thing I want is to go by myself and everyone sees me alone and thinks to come over and chat to me lol. I know on holidays people are a lot more social but the last thing I want is for people to "try and get me involved" in whatever events / activities are going on.

I would like to scuba dive / snorkel though and I'd love to go skydiving or paragliding.

Yes I was on my own.

I visited 3 islands in total and had a great time.

There are things to do for the single traveller and you can join in with groups as you please, certainly no-one forced themself on me.

I am a 'hello' person and say it to virtually everyone I meet and if they want to chat back I will happily sit for a spell otherwise I just mosey along.

Maui is a 'vacation' island and is resort based with everything from the cheap & chearful to the high en Sheraton & Hilton resorts. I was in the mid range in an apartment (bedsit) and really it was full of people that just wanted to relax.

As you are keen to scuba dive/snorkel, and if you're still interested in the Maldives, make sure that the island you go to as a house reef. That will allow you to snorkel/scuba at your leisure and not rely on a boat trip to the nearest reef.

As someone else already said Greece could be a good choice.
We've been to a few islands but Corfu is our favourite. There are plenty of quieter resorts that would potentially be suitable.

Boukari could be a good option, with only a handful of apartments / hotels and 3 or 4 restaurants. The beach is mainly shingle though so not sure if that would suit?

Or perhaps Liapades which is equally quiet and has a lovely pebble beach, with several smaller remote beaches within walking distance too.

My only point I would make with Greece though is that the people are very friendly so this may make you uncomfortable?

I don't mind saying hello to people as long as they don't stop and start telling me about their day or this awesome new event that I should totally sign up for. Shingle is a bit put off as well. Think I'm going to go with the Maldives to be honest, it looks perfect.

I have severe social anxiety and I pretty much avoid all human contact wherever I can. I want to go on holiday this year ...I'll be going solo and I'm looking for somewhere that is very hot with a stunning beach but the most important thing is that it's quiet....but if you know anywhere that is popular and know for being a luxury holiday which is for quiet people please let me know! Many thanks.

Spain is great in terms of value as they've reacted to recession by holding prices; and there are still areas away from the Brit-chav hotspots where you find empty undeveloped beaches. Look at the 'Costa de la Luz' in South West Spain; the wild undeveloped beaches northwest from Tarifa, where on a clear day you can see the Atlas mountains of North Africa. We stayed at a simple, quiet beach hotel about two miles from Tarifa itself; I can't recall its name but it might have been

Look at this one; zoom into satellite view on google earth or the maps on Tripadvisor to see the beaches. Or see travellers photos on hotel sites such as the one above, or another nearby http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g315918-d1057367-Reviews-Hotel_La_Torre-Tarifa_Costa_de_la_Luz_Andalucia.html#photos
to see how quiet the beach is.

The Hurricane Hotel there has a reputation for quiet luxury, but was full so we moved on. I think it's English-run; which is no bad thing, as the customers all seemed to display middle-class British reserve to the point that it almost seemed a bit 'stuck up'.

We walked along the beach one day to Tarifa; a bit of a schlep in the heat, but barely saw another person til we hit town- which itself is charming.

An alternaive could be the northern Spanish coast, but the weather's less guaranteed- they don't call it 'Green Spain' for nothing! Look at the excellent blog by https://ratoncantabria.wordpress.com/ or see her many posts on Tripadvisor's Cantabria forum, or PM her there for advice- she's very helpful

As previously said, Aquitaine, France - lots of campsites, or gites to hire - that way you can be on your own in your accommodation and at the beach. If you walk away from the car parks and down the beach, you don't usually have to go more than ten minutes walk through the woods to get to something pretty empty. Our photo was taken in August.
