What happened to the FD ID request thread?

It seems the thread somebody posted about being asked for ID by FD has been deleted.

Would be good to know why because I felt it was a good discussion, albeit with a somewhat irate FD customer.

Yes, I was just posting a reply and it vanished! What gives?

Irate customer? Every reason to be! MLP. A totally over the top imposition they're placing on him.

The OP poster on the vanished thread was pumpkinface
Their previous posts suggests they are female.
(I was checking at the time)

To be honest I thought the poster was a bit of a !!!!!! with an attitude problem.
They seemed to be taking the stance that new ID rules did not apply to them and they had better things to do with their lives than provide solicitor certified ID, and that data from 20 years ago was still OK now and did not need to be re-verified.

Not a !!!!!!. Just rightfully taking a stance over bank stupidity and paranoia. If they agreed terms over 20 years ago the ID requirements weren't in place then. And why, !!!!!!, should people have to spend money getting so-called "certified ID"? And another thing - re-verified! Why? Identity doesn't change. It's boll**cks!

So what if they agreed terms 20 years ago?
The rules and the laws on ID verification have changed.
30 years ago I too could walk into a building society fill in a form and an account was open there and then - no ID checks at all.
Now every time for the last 10 years I open an account I need to send off certified ID and address verification - every time
When I want to make a withdrawal from a very old investment I have to send off certified ID.

Why do people need certified ID - because of the number of people over the years trying to open accounts for fraudulent purposes with bent/dodgy documentation.

Why does it need re-verifying - because the data from 20 years ago is not longer deemed compliant with the modern rules on what is acceptable ID.
When one of my accounts was made dormant though non use, to get it back again I had to send off my certified ID again.

As I posted in the vanished thread, the T&Cs stipulate that account holders need to provide proof of ID on request. If the bank are not given proof of ID, they are entitled to close the account(s).

Nothing whatsoever to do with stupidity and paranoia. Just part of the bank's obligation under their UK licence.

I know it's extra effort for the account holder but I think we should all be very happy we have a banking system in which criminals aren't allowed free range (not implying that the complainant is a criminal).

I would query all of your assertions.

Twenty/thirty years ago no one agreed to produce identity documents on demand when they accepted the T&Cs. So if the account is still open on what basis are they now demanding this?

Why certified? What's up with just presenting your (uncertified)passport or something, or is this just another unnecessary hoop to jump through?

Re-verify. If, for example, you presented your passport 20 years ago, that's enough. You are still the same person. Asking for it to be re-presented is pointless.

Isn't it ironic that all this garbage is being foisted on the customers of the world's biggest money launderer of all time.
