    Forgot to mention,
    Mortage -£3.3m
bank charges=, like a wounded bull, but they can't me.
Other debts, don't know or care, they can't find me either
  • Absolutely not, presumably he has been giving Lewis fuel money, so I believe that Lewis, having to make the journery to work anyway, should have been putting the money aside for the inevitable MOT repairs.

Lewis chooses the luxury of having a car and the costs that come with it. Fernando should be paying petrol money for his lifts, if he is not, Lewis is a fool and will learn a valuable lesson, ( act like a doormat and you`ll be walked all over)!!:rotfl:

Well I give my work colleague a lift every day we are both in work, and she pays me a value that's a bit more than half of my petrol costs. So we've split the petrol cost, and she's paying a bit towards my car running costs.

We are in agreement, and everyone is happy. I think it would take her about an hour on the bus and train otherwise (and cost her twice as much in bus and train fares!)
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

It's like a mortgage and you invited your partner to live with you. He or she contributes in his or her way, whether its his/her company or tidying up or contributing to rent. But if you sell it, I don't think that person thinks the other one is going to get the proceeds. .

Not the best example to use, the latest proposals from the law commission would give your partner rights over both the house and income.
Don’t think this would extends as far as lift share though.
  • Fer should help on a regular basis. There is not only the cost of
regular maintenance but a number of other factors not in consideration. These include the fact that:
    - Fer is saving on the bus fare
    - Fer is saving 40 minutes each way everyday. time is priceless
    - Fer is traveling comfortable, always seated, no need to wait on a bus stop and get wet to the bus stop when raining or snowing.
    - Fer is probably being pickup from him house or close to it.

for all this... Fer should have to pay for at least half of the petrol and offer to help on the repairs of the car.

I have a friend, at the Uni, that picked me and another friend up everyday.
We used to help with 10 pounds every week for petrol as it was one hour raid and sometimes for the parking. Even was not much, this shows appreciation for his help.

    Regards, Luis
  • Absolutly Not!!! While it is very kind of L to offer F a lift into work. The car and the responsibility of its upkeep rests solely on the shoulders of Lewis. If Lewis would like Fernando to contribute to the cost of running the car he should have come up with an agreement previously and not expect help come the time of its service.
  • I'm in exactly the same situation here myself. If I were to get the bus, it would mean walking 15 mins to the bus stop, in really bad weather sometimes in winter as I live on the coast. My bus journey was 55 mins long. The bus isn't always on time either and sometimes, very rarely, doesn't turn up at all so I'm late for work then (not good). The last time I bought a weekly ticket was around £12.

Anyway a friend picks me up now and the journey is 20-25 mins so I've saved a lot of time there already. We agreed at the very start for me to contribute £10 a week towards the petrol, which I think is very fair. It looked from the start that my lifts were going to be free but I actually offered him money because I was saving on time and this was also cheaper than the bus fare.

I never contribute to his car when things go wrong like tyres or exhausts; but I think the £520 I contribute annually should be enough. He is more reliable than the bus and the end of the day we are friends who have no bad feelings toward each other and both parties are happy.
  • This is a daily thing, the resposiblity for the driver is , he's there on time, there everyday and to pick up the passager from door to door and back again.
Paying for half the fuel is right and every so often he should he shold give somthing to say thank you for going out of his way, being reliable and going that extra mile.
  • Its up to Lewis whether he offrs Fernando a lift.
Its up to Fernando whether he offers to help with maintenance costs
    There is NO obligation!
BUT Fernando might find himself walking if he does all the taking and none of the giving!!!!!!!
