I choose to walk and I should be able to walk along the pavement safely.
My local shopping area is used by an elderly population yet cyclists use the pavement and terrorise the elderly who wish to shop locally.
Therefore local population do not see local residents and become lonely and restricted to their homes.
I suspect you didn't read the article this thread links to.
"Boardman argues: “When you put it into perspective, there’s 36 people killed on pavements by cars, buses and lorries every year – that’s just on pavements – versus about one every three years from a cyclist. "
From the vitriol you see on fora and news outlets you would think these figures were the wrong way round ; but no - motorists kill well over 100 times more pedestrians on the pavement than cyclists do.
Well that's prejudice for you; and bias blindness (not particularly you but generally)0 -
As a person that is partially deaf I have a loathing of cyclist that ride in pedestrian areas, on pavements and the wrong way down one way streets. Modern bikes are very quite now and cant be heard approaching. Show some consideration to others please0

A perfectly reasonable request and I wholeheartedly agree with you.
Now can you link to your post(s) on the motoring threads asking for the same consideration seeing as they represent 100 times the risk.
If you 'loath' the risks from bikes what level of dislike do you save for motor vehicles? Unless it's irrational prejudice of course0 -
If you hate people riding bikes on the pavement, campaign for high quality cycling infrastructure so they don't feel that they have to for their own safety.
If you hate people riding bikes on the road then campaign for high quality cycling infrastructure so they don't have to by law and to avoid endangering more vulnerable people on the pavement.
If you wonder why people on bikes do certain things on the road, maybe try riding in the current conditions and find out for yourself, and consider taking Bikeability to improve your understanding of roadcraft. It's only numbers.0 -

Errrrrrrr........Stevie_Palimo wrote: »bike riders in my area are pig headed idiots who have no cares for anyone other than themselves
You are coming across as having a very broad brush dipped in tar, and a "them vs us" chip on your shoulder.Stevie_Palimo wrote: »I do not mind them going in out in large groupsStevie_Palimo wrote: »I do not mind cyclists if they follow the rules on the roads
These are ridiculous statements.
I don't mind cats as long as they don't scratch me. Doesn't mean I post on message boards saying cats are evil because one of them scratched me.
I completely agree with you about large groups of cyclists riding more than 2 abreast, as this is against the guidance of the highway code. It's not actually against the law (this is a SHOULD statement in the highway code, not a MUST), but as a courtesy to other road users (in any form) then they should be aware of holding up traffic. It's perceived as arrogant, and for good reason.
What you don't seem to appreciate is that any type of road users (be they motorists, cyclists, pedestrians, horse riders, etc) can sometimes do stupid things. It's not their means of transport that makes them behave in that way.0 -

I do not dislike all bike riders only the idiot ones that show no respect back.
The guys that were blocking the path of a long line of traffic including mine were simply being obstructive idiots by not allowing traffic to flow past them by pulling into a two line chain as opposed to 4 bikes out acting like numpties.
If an inconsiderate overtake caused one of the cyclists to have to go through a pothole and fall off that could be classed as dangerous driving.
If one of them had a headcam, you might find out.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0 -

I cant be bothered with arguing the toss here, I know they were in the wrong and not me.0

Are they cyclists or are they just idiots with bikes?
The ones you describe sound like kids - they could just as easily have been on skateboards.
Tell me, when you see young drivers doing silly things with cars in places like McDonalds car parks, do you just lump them together with other motorists?
If not, why do you do that with cyclists?0 -
An Evoque arrived behind. .
Did you get his number (it's normally he in my experience)? Will you be taking it further?
I think that, just like for some speeding you can do a speed aware course that there should be the equivalent Bike Aware course too. Although your incident appears to be sheer stupidity and maliciousness rather than a lack of awareness, of which I'm a lot more forgiving.0
