Raised a complaint with Origin and still had no reply. Been forced to Contact credit card company for help. Need to get away from this very poor ISP.

They are terrible at responding by email and if you can get through by phone, they will most likely make promises they can't / won't keep. I have emailed their complaints team and customer services team to no avail.

Origin has refunded the MIL the BB charge for the partial month I discussed earlier in this thread. They have credited her also for one month of anytime calls also for the inconvenience.

However, I would advise checking your bills carefully every month! She has the anytime calls package and is currently querying three charges on her latest bill. The entries look like this:
    Peak
    15/8/2017 12:21] 118118 1.084min(s) - 4.57ppm £18.1200

She does occasionally use 118118 but this is ridiculous! I'm assuming this is one call and there is something wrong with the algo. 1.084mins x 4.57ppm = 5p when rounded up!

The other two look like this:
    Peak
    [04/8/2017 11:51] 123 0.117min(s) - 0.00ppm £0.1700
    [11/8/2017 11:06] 123 0.084min(s) - 0.00ppm £0.1700

The last two are the speaking clock which she has not dialed!

    Be vigilent

118118 costs £8.98 per call plus £4.49 per minute. Presumably the other cost is the Origin access charge. I cannot find the charge on their website, since SC087 is not in the tariff.

With regards to the 123 calls. Check to see if anything else is plugged into the phone line. I seem to recall some old satellite boxes calling this number.
  • Initially communication wasn't the best - I was delivered a router and a date, but lacked clear instructions on what to do. Searching Internet showed what router settings were required though, & I ended with a working line and broadband. This was very slow though (0.7 mbps download speeds. After waiting for the 10 day 'settling in' period I contacted origin. They guided me through changing the incorrect router setting and they further reprofiled me to leave me with 6.2 mbps download speed - better than I was getting with Plusnet. Well done Origin. I'm not sorry I switched (£155 all in for broadband and line 1st year).

I think that the router they deliver is preconfigured, so you just need to plug it in to the mains and the phone socket.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

I joined Origin a year ago now (when they were the 'New Kid On The Block') and they sent out an Asus DSL-N17U Modem/Router.

This was certainly pre-configured and worked straight out of the box.

I suspect that, as they have become more popular, maybe they don't manage to pre-configure all of them?

By the way, my experience has been absolutely fine and have not had one single drop-out or loss of service or billing error.

    Perhaps I've been lucky?

@Origin-Broadband do you think taking up to 7 working days to reply to customers is an acceptable amount of time for the customer to wait?

Sorry about that, but this is the standard lead time for a response from that email address.
