Today I found out that I had been fooled by this company and contacted my bank who are investigating. I found a free phone number and rang them the person I spoke to was rude and said it was all my fault I said that I believed I had taken up a free offer and did not know about anything at all that they were 2 weeks later going to take £89.95 from my account unauthorised. It is a scam they set up a reoccurring demand for £89.95 a month. Please get this company banned. The name on my bank statement is TRUEBEAUTYAID.COM
Did you not see this on that webpage:
This is one of the clearest pointers I have seen to the T&Cs of this type of company, and even mentions 'recurring billing' without needing to look at a separate page.
Did you tick the box that says "I am at least 18 years old and agree to the privacy policy, terms & conditions & enrollment in a recurring billing system."?
Did you read the Terms and Conditions before ticking the box?
Now don't get me wrong, of course these companies are acting in an underhand way, but it is up to each and every one of us to protect ourselves from these sharks.0 -
I too got caught out by Amiee, my advert came from Cosmopolitan and had no terms or conditions on it. The subsequent email sent confirming to had no terms or conditions or any clues to there was a CPC subscription service.
By chance I saw the advert pop up on yahoo.co.uk and clicked on it then noticed at the very bottom in tiny, I mean tiny print the terms and conditions, despite being very small print i saw the alarm bells ringing with the CPC subscription written in.
I phoned the number listed to cancel but couldnt get through the line was horrendous and couldn't understand what was being said as it was all on/off static. I've kept trying and the line goes from horrendous to message stating nobody available to take all and then phonecall is terminated.
Today I managed to get through to the rudest woman on the planet. Despite insisting I want to cancel immediately as I was misled, she refused saying i had to call back on 21st September when my free 14 day trial ended. When i queried that was not 14 days she got really hostile and said I had to call back on 21st thats when my tracking numbers would be sent via returns and then and only then would my account get cancelled and put the phone down on me.
I paid by credit card so am going to look at stopping the card as I am pretty sure as soon as I phone back on the 21st she will, providing the phone number still works and is usable, it will be too late.
Any suggestions on how to stop this scam taking anymore monies from me welcomed.
I feel such a fool.:(0 -
My Dad got caught out by this last week when a pop-up appeared saying as a valued Sky customer he was entitiled to free Aimee cream if he completed a survey & paid only £2.95 postage. Luckily my Mum mentioned it to me today & I told her it was a con & she is going to her bank tomorrow to try & stop any payments.
This seems like a new tactic from the Facebook ones mentioned here which is why I am posting.0 -
Hi. Maybe I was lucky as I had despatch notes with order numbers. Have cancelled my "free trial" for future orders today after payments had been taken for the freebies. Try customer service number 0800 206 1656. It may help. I have received confirmation of cancellation by email from the company. At least I have proof of cancellation if further payments are taken. Other customer service numbers for the company are
0800 046 9691
0800 206 1568
0800 161 3649 not sure if these numbers help but 1656 worked for me.0 -
I have just found exactly the same thing on my pending transactions in our account. The bank cannot do anything until the payment has been taken !!! BEWARE, THIS IS REPEAT IS A CON. Never thought I`d get caught out, but its true what they say "You don't get anything for nothing"0

Wrong info edited :- My advice is to still close the account once it is in the hands of scammers.
This boils down to some to using some savvy and not rushing things, People do need to take responsibility for there own actions and I can see the Companies like this do there best to hide the facts it is really down to an individual to look over everything.
You would not go and buy a house or a car on a whim so perhaps take that idea into everyday offers/purchases you may consider.0 -

Sorry, but that simply is not true.
It may have been true once.
Not only can the bank stop a continuous payment, but they must do so if requested to do so by the account holder.
This Financial Ombudsman Service document explains it.
A short extract:From November 2009 consumers have been able to cancel continuous payment authorities direct with their bank - and the bank has then been bound not to make any further payments, even if the supplier continued to request them. If the bank makes payments under a continuous payment authority after the consumer has cancelled it, the rules say that the bank will generally be liable to return those payments.0 -
