We had a storm that went on for a few hours last night. Pup was pretty good, I was surprised! She snuggled in by my legs & her head popped up at the thunder but she wasn't trembling or nervous. I thought she would be scared!

Pipsqueak loves the heat. She'd happily sit in the sun all day if she was allowed. I let her sit there for max 10mins before I bring her in to cool off as she's too stupid to realise that's what she's supposed to do to avoid heat stroke.

I do feel a bit like a bad mum today though. She was panting a bit earlier so I thought she was really hot. This was indoors, where it's relatively cool. I asked her if she wanted a bath, as I thought it'd cool her down a bit. She ran out of the lounge, so I followed her. She was at the back gate, pacing. I took her out of the garden (she refuses point blank to do any "business " in the garden) and it turns out she's got a dodgy tummy. She needed a woo and that's why she was panting!

So do be aware if your dog is suddenly panting more than usual. It might not be just the heat, s/he might need a toilet break ;)

The cooling mat arrived very quickly. Alf is a bit suspicious of it but is lying on it. It doesn't feel particularly cool to me - but I guess we don't want to overdo things and freeze the poor lad!

Which one did you get? We started with a gel one that was supposed to stay cool for a several hours. It only lasted about 30 min & didn't get particularly cool. I've now got one that you soak in water & wring out - it's fabulous!

Miss Leigh Terrier has been fine but on Saturday I decided she needed a paddling pool in the garden. Not having one, I got out the plastic sledge (well, yes, I am 59, why do you ask?) and filled it with water. What does she think of it? Absolutely nothing, she won't even drink from it. She loves swimming in the canal though...
