New Hard Drive Can't Find Modem

??? ???
I've tried all the above options and I'm not getting very far at all.
When I launch the dial up connection it opens up and then crashes. I get the dreaded blue screen telling me:
"fatal exception 0E occured at 0028:C002936E in VXD VCOMM(01)+00000106"
I don't know what is going wrong and wonder if its worth changing the internal modem or if the problem will still exist even if I do?? What a nightmare.
Any advice anyone :-/0 -
When you get the oppurtunity can you switch of the PC & remove it's cover. Very carefully remove the modem from the PCI or ISA slot on the main board and then re insert it.
Ensure you insert it fully & check.
Goto control panel and use the ADD NEW Hardware Feature.0 -
Tony,
sorry no good, tried this already. Even booted up blank without the card in to clear down any remnants. Closed down re-inserted and rebooted.
Still stuck as to where to go next?0 -
Ok Jazzy, does your mother board have a built in modem. When you boot your computer you need to enter the bios to check. To enter the bios press the delete key when prompted.
Navigate through the bios using the arrow keys and if you come across a setting for an "Onboard Modem" ensure it's dissabled using the "Page Up / Page Down" keys and then select F10 to save and exit the bios.
You will then be able to reboot into windows and reload / re install the supra.0 -
Tony,
I'll check the bios tonight -
thanks0 -
Failing that your only other option is to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty. Goto device manager and check for conflicts. Supra's are notorious for needing manual setups due to conflicts.0
-
Tony,
that bit may be beyond me I'm afraid. I have looked for conflicts but couldn't see anything obvious. I think that no joy will equate to new modem.
Internal or external what would be best route - I'm thinking an internal one again would be best?0 -
Hi
This feels like a cop out but there are various bits and bobs about these errors on the microsoft support site but it can depend on other software and hardware you have installed.
Such as :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300029
And a general list :
http://support.microsoft.com/common/canned.aspx?R=d&H=Windows%2098%20Fatal%20Exception%200E%20Error%20Articles&LL=kbwin98search%20or%20kbwin98sesearch&Sz=kbfatalexerr0e&CDID=EN-US-KB&LCID=1033
It might be worth having a browse through and see if they apply to you, they may not be an exact match but they can often give clues.
There is also a quick way of pushing your current installation of Windows 98 to one site and trying a re-install - then install the modem and Dial up networking first and see if it still fails. You can then put your old installation back afterwards. (You try this at your own risk BTW - but should not lose any data)0 -
To be honest I've only ever used internal, usually generic (cheap) ones but have only ever owned 1 supra. Once bitten & all that.0
-
Godders,
I've tried looking for the exception error but no joy. I don't really know what else I can do apart from replacing the modem.
thanks for you help though - Think I will avoid anything Supra!!0
