Very pleased with the service from kwik fit.
Sadly, if they were experts they'd know that tyre manufacturers universally recommend the newest/best tyres should be on the rear of the vehicle.0 -
Well I always put new ones on the front because that is where you want the grip and the best balanced tyres.
For the few rear-wheel drive cars, it might arguably be better to put the best tyres on the back but only if you drive like an idiot and over-accelerate on bends.0 -
I wouldn't pay for disposal of old tyres, I know my local HWRC (tip) accept old tyres for free.0

Personally, I subscribe to the manufacturers' view that the best grip is preferred on the rear, as the *average* driver will find understeer easier to control than oversteer, so ideally cars will be front-end grip limited.
Whether you or I can control oversteer is largely irrelevant - what I care about most is whether Doris in her Micra is suddenly going to end up facing the wrong way in front of me because she's got two bald Linglongs on the back and can't get around the corner safely.0 -

AA dont seem to know anything either as they say generally its better to have the newer tyres on rear but to check for individual vehicle as it can vary http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/safety/car-tyres.html0 -

Erm, so the AA do know something then, as they're agreeing with the tyre manufacturers. KF put the new ones on the front, they don't seem to know the manufacturers' guidance.
Isn't that what I said?0 -
Differing opinions on whether new tyres should be on the front or the rear
Don't know if it makes any difference but I travel less than 5000 miles a year and the tyres now on the rear of the car still have 6mm tread.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗

I don't think it makes much difference so long as you drive sensibly and are mindful of road conditions. Having new, balanced tyres on the front prevents wheel shake for sure which is reason enough to put them there.0

kwikfit are expensive whenever customers compare prices with ours we always wipe the floor with their prices all fitted, branded or non branded tyres0 -

I drive mostly in town speeds of 20-30 mph. Occasionally on the motorway up North to visit family - but usually pick a dry day rather than go when rain is forecast as I hate motorway driving in the rain.0% credit card £1360 & 0% Car Loan £7500 ~ paid in full JAN 2020 = NOW DEBT FREE 🤗
