I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • car has been at main dealers all day for timing belt and they have tried to rip me off overcharging. They have told me I now need 2 new tyres for a non-repairable puncture and a slit to the cord ? Wanted me to pay top price for 2 new tyres also

Will kwik fit while you wait be more expensive than ordering & booking online ?

Their prices in store may vary, and did the price you saw online include the "mandatory" extras that they like to charge for, such as balancing, new valves, and disposal of your old tyres?

Finally, have you checked with "proper" local tyre fitters? Quite often you'll find they're cheaper and better at their job than the national chains.
  • Thanks - yes the online price was fully fitted with all the extras disposal, balancing etc

TBH I don't know any local tyre fitters - I've only used "national chains" with my previous car and I usually compare & book online but if its a slit to the cord I understand this is illegal so I really need to get sorted in the morning.

The car dealer has already tried to overcharge me on my service and again today by over £100 on my timing belt - I don't know who to trust

Google "tyre fitters" and your area (nearest town, whole county or whatever you're happy to travel to). Look for a listing from yell.com - the online version of the old yellow pages and see who there is nearby.

Then phone round in the morning asking for a price for 2x tyres for whatever your car is. A good place will be able to give you a few options (budget / mid-range / wannabe-stig) and you can go from there.

Don't forget that they often quote prices without VAT - they're not meant to when quoting to the public but it still seems to be common across the car repair industry. So double check that any good prices you're quoted include VAT!
  • ok I will try that in the morning. Thanks for your help

Book and pay on line at Kwik fit and go to the depot you have chosen to fit them ... Cheapest we have found too over the last five years or so . Also find out who the manager is by name , will help future visits by asking for them by name .... Sometimes they don't have what you want in stock and have to order them so check they have them in stock first .

Just to update, I googled "tyre fitters" for my area and all but one had a website where you could check the price.

Kwik fit were still the cheapest so I went along there for when they opened at 8.30am. They got the tyres from a nearby town 20 mins away delivered by taxi and fitted them for me matching the internet price - all done in an hour.

They were polite and courteous throughout and didn't make me feel like an idiot. As there was one on the back and one on the front needed replacing they said they would put the old one from the front onto the back and put the two new ones on the front - no extra charge.

Very pleased with the service from kwik fit.
