I'm supposed to be doing my first carboot this weekend, after hearing so much about these muggers I'm taking my 3 year old and a baseball bat, that'll learn 'em :D

Can't wait to get rid of all this stuff, I just hope I don't price to high, mind better to go high and be knocked down than undersell it I suppose.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Did my first car booty today. Woop woop. Raised £110 + and am very pleased with myself.

Does anyone else find that it feels like you come home with more stuff than you went with though??!!

The main thing that annoyed me was that it was advertised as starting at 10am. I rang up the organization to confirm and they too said it began at 10am.

When we arrived at about 9.30 to set up, we found the place packed and buzzing and we were like the last to arrive. When we asked the guy collecting the car fees, he said that they had been open since 7am but they have to say 10am because of something to do with the council.

This really got my goat because I missed out on 3 hours trading etc. Had I have known I would have gone earlier.

One to note for others that are advertised like this........

Oh and the vultures were present. Someone even offered to buy my OHs top which he was wearing as we stepped out of the car!!!!

Stick to your guns and don't accept money if you think the offer is too pittiful. Don't be BULLIED!!!!!!

£110 towards the holiday......18 days to go.

It wasn't that good to be honest, made about £50 after paying the pitch fee. People just seemed to want something for nothing like we had a massive mirror in a gorgeous frame up at £7 (I underpriced it to get rid, was worth more) and was offered 20p for it.

Had people turning their nose up at brand new books for 50p, couldn't shift any videos at 30p for 2. I also had loads of baby clothes like Next and gap and stuff priced at 10p an item, think I sold about 50p's worth there.

It was a blistering hot day and the turn out was good, just not a lot of serious buyers.

We were quite lucky with the muggers though, had a few come over to the stall but mainly just looked as we took stuff out rather than rifle through things.

  • Hey gusy, hoping to get some advice here... I have never been to a car boots sale, but have sold on ebay. I have so much personal old stuff I want to sell, but have no idea if a car boot would be suitable. Can someone advice? I'm based in the Brighton area, and don't have a car... so would it be better to just stick to ebay ro something? :)

    Thanks so much

Where did you go? I can sell lots of books at 50p each - regardless of condition (though if they are too well read or brown they go in the recycle bin).

I'm in the same boat as you, don't drive, hence no car and those people I know with cars not available to help.

I've been selling on www.ibootsale.co.uk its an online car boot sale, for a couple of months now and its going quite well.

Unlike ebay its free to list and no final value fees!

Sorry it was not that good. I am surprised poeple would not pay 50p for books. i charge £1.00-2.00 for hard backs in good condition by popular authors, never have a problem. it seams like you went to a hard one for first time, but dont let it put you off. is there other car boot you could go to? Or try the same one again,i find you get different people attending and what i could not sell one week, will sell the next.

But £50.00 not bad for a few hours work for items you dont want. Well done.:T

I buy books at car boot and 50p -75p a hard back is the going rate at all the local boot sales, anything more and they just don't get an interest. The last batch I bought the seller was desperate as they said they had trawled round every boot sale trying to declutter their home ready to downsize and this was the last one and if they didn't sell their whole stock they were going to dump it at the council dump on the way home. They were doing 3 hard backs for a pound but let me have a large carrier bag full for £2.50. By the end they had virtually cleared their stall, but ended up giving the stuff away free.
