Car boot sale advice - updated 2013

Some boot sales, such as the one I mentioned here,
http://www.hemswellmarket.co.uk/howtoget.htm
have a significant numbers of regular traders selling new stuff - they pay extra for their big vans and big pitches, where they sell new stuff.
Just like the traders paying extra to sell fast food, they could take exception to an amateur setting up in competition.
However if you look like an amateur (various obviously second hand items on paste tables as well as the nice new stuff) you should be left in peace to sell - but don't expect to shift the stuff at "new" prices.
If you are seriously under pricing expect to see the regular traders buying your stuff for their stalls:D0 -

Hey guys I'm doing my 1st car boot in a few weeks, selling girls baby clothes, pushchair, moses basket and a few other bits, I've sorted through most of the stuff and just wanted advice on pricing -
[BGraco travel system, with pramette, car seat and car seat base[/B] Someone who goes told me to not price stuff up, so I thought I would display it and say £80, will go down to £50/£40.
Moses basket £15 will go down though.
Good quality clothes, Next ect Im going to put them on hangers on a rail and say £1, I thought I would price these e.g. put a board on the rail saying £1 each, do you think thats okay?!
T-shirts/vests/Tesco stuff Stuff thats okay but not as good at the rail stuff, I'd put in a box saying 50p will take less.
C.D's/ DVD's/ Records 50p
Xbox console and games probs 15 games, thought £15???
I want it all gone so will lower prices but dont want to be ripped off, so I think the prices are reasonable!?
Thanks for any advise!!0 -

Hi guys
Me and my Mum are planning on doing our first ever car boot in the next few weeks (Bowlee in Manchester, anyone know it?)
Never been to a car boot before even as a customer so unsure what to expect.
I'm wondering how we are going to fit everything in the car but I'm also wanting to know the best place to park up.
Will there be stewards directing you where to park or do you get to choose?
Only selling clothes, dvd's books and a few bits of small furniture. Looking forward to it.0 -
I did my first car boot sale for years this morning. I sold about 2/3rds of what I took but the actual event was very very quiet and one 'proper' trader with a van and new goods was moaning he hadn't made a single sale. There were also some clothes sellers who didn't cover their pitch money.
I still couldn't shift a single mills and Boon book, I ended up trying to give them away and still had no takers. Most of my other books went for 10p (including hardbacks) Cds were also going at around 10-20p but I could hardly shift any. All people wanted were hallmarked pieces of jewellery, good pieces of china and collectables and toys.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
