Not quite in focus, but it was raining when I took it so rushed out and back. Are these the leaves unfurling or fruits forming?

These look like blackcurrant flowers .

I assumed you'd be south of me, interesting. Guess they must be different varieties or mine are behind as they're still small and only just planted out.

As for the aphids, depends on how averse you are to chemicals. Try the washing up liquid, or rubbing off any you can spot

It's (I think ) Ben Lomond. I bought it last autumn and it promptly lost all its leaves.

I've been out to wipe the leaves and will spray with washing up liquid on Saturday when I've time to get out to buy a new bottle. I don't expect a large crop this year as it's only it's first year.

The garden is walled and north facing and the winds whip through it like a knife through butter - Atlantic storms are the worst. We've had a really wet winter and spring if that makes a difference.

Ours are unidentified cuttings from MIL (6 inches high but trying to flower) and the one that was here when we bought the house which is still in a pot after being moved so probably quite unhappy

I've been out in the field opposite the house where there's two 'wild' and untended red currant bushes. No aphids.

Last year they cropped very heavily but couldn't be reached so I spent some time spraying the weeds and it seems to have helped die back the junk stuff.

These too are in bud, long 'strings' of them so I'm hoping that this year I can get fruit off them for my neighbour to make redcurrant jelly with. There's so many deer here which get culled so there's always a need for redcurrants.

If they can fruit without any human intervention I'm hoping mine can too!
