Here's this morning's plant - the flowers are opening and you're all correct, it's a bluebell! Sorry arbrighton, I promise to not listen to neighbours anymore.

The little bell is bright blue, I just got the camera angle wrong.

These have never appeared since I moved in so I'm guessing taking away the two huge bushes has given them a chance.

    Thanks everyone.

I can never get the colour to come out right for bluebells.

I put some pics of ours in the daffodil thread.

I just should have moved two yards to the right!

I've been hand raking the lawn and am just amazed at the amount of moss coming off it. Because of my dodgy knee I'm only doing small patches at once and then sitting down but will carry on in dribs and drabs. There's enough in one small patch to fill at least four hanging baskets (though I won't). Despite my sore knee I'm enjoying doing this task.

After never having a garden since childhood I'm constantly surprised at how much I've taken to 'sort of' gardening. I'm never going to be much good at potting seedlings, greenhouses or other such stuff but get a kick out of maintaining what's here.

Saying that, my new blackcurrant plant, in a container, has little growths on it (I'm assuming it's tiny blackcurrants) and the blackberry bush, also in a container, is also sprouting like mad.

    Such simple pleasures.

If your bluebells are only just coming into flower, it's more likely to be the leaves of the blackcurrant unfurling. Then you get dangly green flowers *not attractive but do the job*

Actual blackcurrants won't start forming for months yet

Think I'm getting the green flowers. Leaves are abounding. This is a great journey I'm on, learning as I go along.

    Thanks.

This is what is forming on the plant -

Not quite in focus, but it was raining when I took it so rushed out and back. Are these the leaves unfurling or fruits forming?

oh yep, they're fruits- yours are ahead of mine (where in the country are you out of curiosity?)

BTW, it looks as though there have been aphids on the plant from the way the leaves are crinkling

I'm in mid Argyll, west coast of Scotland.

What can I do about aphids? Washing up liquid in a squirty bottle? Or is it too late?

I assumed you'd be south of me, interesting. Guess they must be different varieties or mine are behind as they're still small and only just planted out.

As for the aphids, depends on how averse you are to chemicals. Try the washing up liquid, or rubbing off any you can spot
