Returning an item after you've used it ?

Husband bought a shaver from John Lewis at £100, he says it's not giving him a good close shave and was a total waste of money. Can he take it back to JL and get a refund or swap it for another one? He got it this morning and has only used it once to try it out.
I don't personally care what he does as long as it stops him moaning!

You will have to check their returns policy. I suspect they may not take it back due to hygiene reasons. In saying that it doesn't hurt to ask.

There is a very good chance they won't take it back for hygiene reasons. They don't have to but you would need to check their returns policy and remember to look for the exclusions.

All dependent on John Lewis' policies (which are usually better than most, but not guaranteed to take it back)

It's important that any unwanted item, unless faulty, is returned in a re-saleable condition. We'd expect this to mean that you've kept all original packaging and labels, and that it's undamaged and unused

    So no, I would imagine.

Ok, many thanks, will tell hubby. I did tell him this but he never listens to me!

He needs to use it more than once, both the face and the shaver adapt to each other (seems silly I know). This is especially more noticeable if you go from a rotary to a foil straight shaver.

It took about 4-6 weeks for my shaver to "bed in" and another 2 weeks or so every time I change the foils. And this was on a £200 shaver.

If he cant get a refund tell him to stick with it.

John Lewis are pretty good with returns from what I've heard.

If they refuse the refund, let them know "this item states it gives a close shave, but actually it doesn't". The item doesn't fit the intended purpose, so they should really take it back.

As long as you're polite to the staff they're generally quite happy to help.

With an attitude like yours, I think that someone should have given you a big whack when you were a bit younger.

    Maybe they did?

You could always contact the manufacturer. They LOVE specific feedback like yours.

But that's just one person opinion. You talk as if you speak for everyone who has used this shaver but the fact of the matter is you haven't.

One person trying to return something they don't like trying the legal terms eg "I don't like it, therefore it's not fit for purpose" is completely the worst way to go about things.
