    Sorry Brooker Dave,
You have to be kidding ?!?

Bank transfer, when dealing with someone you do not know, is as bad as a Western Union transfer.

I've been paid and paid for all manner of things via bank transfer and via Western Union.

Most people who get ripped off on ebay are greedy dopes - if a car is far cheaper than all the other ones, and you can't just rock up and collect it because the seller is working on an oilrig or a spacestation...

If you can speak to someone, and they seem alright, then BT is fine.

All that said Facebook selling seems to be based around local areas, a bit like Gumtree.

It's probably the same police that constantly post scam warnings on the local sites about all sorts of dodgy goings on...

    Soolin,

See this link to the Met Police website link already shown above in this forum (content.met.police.uk/Article/Safe-buying-advice/1400010734360/1400010734360).

If you call the Metropolitan Police dodgy, then you are correct (most people might disagree).
The Met Police recommend escrow by FCA authorised firms because it is so important to protect both buyer and seller simultaneously.

You do indeed need to protect against fraudulent escrow sites, and that is why FCA authorisation is so important - that is how you check that the escrow service is safe (you must check the FCA online register to check the firm is really authorised by the FCA).
  • We gave up on ebay a long time ago, instead selling on Gumtree & Preloved; when my husband (an unreconstructed luddite) asked me to put a guitar on Gumtree for him & I said I'd like try Facebook first (we've recently moved, & I'd just joined the local group), he thought I was crazy .... the guitar sold within an hour of being listed!

Do I need to have my "Who can contact me" set to anyone,so as to be able to sell(not business) on my/group page. I'm new to FB & I am not using any private info just hobby type things but not sure if "anyone"would be a curse.
    Thanks

Facebook selling is quite easy. Type your area name into the search bar and then the words sale, sell, items etc which will bring up groups to join. If you join you post a picture of your item plus description and where to collect from ( first half of postcode only ) or say you can deliver. People will comment on the item if they want it and then you message them to arrange the handover of the item for cash. I have sold on and purchased on facebook for about seven years so if anyone has any questions feel free to ask away :)

Just to add that you will get some strange people contacting you if you are selling certain items such as heeled shoes etc but you can block them in your settings so they can't see you or any of your posts - to them its like you left facebook.
Be aware of scammers too - there is the old saying which is if it looks too good to be true then it is and these scam artists are coming up with new schemes everyday, and thats not just on facebook it is everywhere but facebook does help them to do it a bit more easily! Also, if you do have any complaints about any items, facebook will not help as apparently buying and selling is against their T's & C's, and never accept paypal for a collection item - same as ebay - you will get conned!

I thought heeled shoes and dirty underpants were one of the ways to make good money on ebay?

Surely FB users can't be anymore mad than Ebay users?

I've joined a local group,I've not posted on it yet though.
I was wondering, does I put collection only as I've seen post from 50+miles away from the local area.
    So many diet"ads" to bypass.
