Module 1
SDRAM, PC133 (133 MHz), 128 MBytes, unknown brand
Module 2
SDRAM, PC100 (100 MHz), 64 MBytes, LG SemiconductorStill having problems with pc doing half hour 'chkdsk' before it powers up properly. Sometimes it says it's set to do it, sometimes it says it's recommending it and it deletes files (I'm afraid it doesn't mean much to me so I haven't remembered which files it's deleting). Is this something I can correct myself?

That's a spec from 2001/2002. I wasn't expecting SDRAM.
Anyway, it's cheaper from Funky Giraffe, £20 all in; http://www.funkygiraffe.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=43_23_29&products_id=43&osCsid=23219b9889be41acfa885edc06d02f29
You just remove the old 64MB RAM memory and place the new 512MB in it's place or you could remove the 128MB and put the 512MB in it's place. Then take the 64MB RAM out and put the 128MB in it's place(That is the generally recommended configuration).
Just email him your CPU-Z file in order for him to check compatibility before purchase.
Just checking if there any updates for your BIOS....0 -
I'm also not sure about your graphics controller either. AGP Transfer Rate of
1x is not impressive.
Maybe you're missing an integrated graphics driver.
Could be one of these: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2&OSID=1&CatID=1160
I don't know which is the vendor of your mainboard, so difficult to be sure of the drivers you will need.
We'll run a scan, once you've re-installed your OS.0 -
Morning everyone! Just a quicky cos my computer keeps crashing and I've typed this out 3 times already!!!! I have new memory now, thanks for all your help with that.
Now my computer keeps crashing and going to a black screen pretty much as soon as I log in, or when I try and do anything. This morning it doesn't seem as bad, but can anyone advise please? I wonder if it's when I've put n the memory, although it was running ok at first?
Sorry it's short, hoping to get this posted before I crash again
Thanks loads

What's the make and model number of this computer? It could be a faulty motherboard or failing power supply unit (PSU), especially with a 6-7 year old machine.
Click Start - Run - type eventvwr.msc - OK, and look for red errors or yellow warnings dated today in System and Application logs. Double-click the line for more information. Might show something.0 -

and lots more pre memory which I'm not sure are relevant.
Does it make any sense?
Thanks,

You haven't re-installed your OS as of yet, have you?0

Hi Donnie! Still on your hols? I've only managed to put new memory in, not had chance to reinstall stuff or save stuff to disc pre-re-install yet, either.
I know this sounds a bit crackers, but the inside of the pc was very dusty, daren't touch anything incase I damaged it. Would that matter?

I would give the inside of the pc a clean. Use asmall paint brush to dust the inside carefully. If you have an air blaster such as a balloon pump then use that as well to blast out dust from the grills, psu etc. It is poss that the dust is stopping the cooling of the system, causing the shutdowns. If you are installing a new os the put it on a new hard drive. The old ddrive could be put in as a secondry drive and all your data will then be available, to copy over to the new drive.Nudge nudge, Wink wink, Say No More!0
