Santander Credit Card

I'm not sure that it's the loss leader that it once was. With interest rates presently so low it doesn't cost them a great deal to lend me £6,000 but they will earn commission from the retailers. That's not to say that they will raise my limit, though.I wouldn't get your hopes up too much, although it is possible. The bottom line is that a 0% offer is a loss leader to get you to sign up for their card. You've now got the card so they have little incentive to lose even more on the deal.0 -
Try again. They can increase your limit on demand but you have to agree to a credit check. When I rang to ask Santander to increase my limit after my salary increased 3 fold from when I applied, I was told they did not have the systems to manually increase limits
I'd had the 123 credit card before they offered the 0% deal. I asked to be put on that deal, they agreed. I asked for an increased limit and they increased it from £3600 to £3900 - not a lot, but better than nothing.0 -
I am now finding this, having just taken out a 1|2|3 card. But how do you expand it? I can't see a way to do so with their rudimentary online banking system. Will that option become available once the first statement is generated? My only gripe with it is that the statement narrative always starts along the lines of PURCHASE DOMESTIC LONDON and I have to expand this to see who the heck I've spent my hard earned with.0 -
I've have a Santander credit card since February and it has a 23 month interest free period for purchases (and balance transfers but I didn't need one). My only gripe with it is that the statement narrative always starts along the lines of PURCHASE DOMESTIC LONDON and I have to expand this to see who the heck I've spent my hard earned with. I've brought this to their attention but I don't expect much to be done.
I digress, though. The point of this post is to gauge opinion as to whether they'd raise my limit in the near future. I was given a £6,200 limit and am £4,600 into this. I have £20,000 in the 1-2-3 account and £11,000 in an ISA with them.
I've never requested a limit increase before and don't know whether to leave it for Santander to offer me a higher limit (or not) or speak to them about it. I have no requirements for any large purchases in the near future but I put pretty much everything onto this card so I'll exhaust it within a few months.
I do have a 40 day holiday in November/December and have most of the accomodation to pay for when I get there so I'll want a decent amount available. I can use my Tesco credit card and get points if necessary but I prefer the interest free option.
If you don't mind me asking why was it beneficial to put your 11,000 into an isa and not open a second 123 account at 3%,0 -

I didn't think you could open a second 123 account unless it was as part of a joint account with someone else?
Or are you saying as an individual you are allowed to hold more than one 123 account (without it being joint account)?I'm a Board Guide on the Credit Cards, Loans, Credit Files & Ratings boards. I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly, and I can move and merge threads there. Any views are mine and not the official line of moneysavingexpert.com0 -

You used to be able to (I have two) but they then changed the rules so one had to be joint.0 -

Any ideas?
1. Eligibility
To be eligible to open this account you must be 18 years old or over and live in the UK for tax purposes. You may only hold a maximum of
two 1I2I3 Current Accounts, one in your name and one in joint names. Any additional requests for a 1I2I3 Current Account may result in a
joint account holder becoming aware of your existing 1I2I3 Current Account(s). If you open or hold any additional 1I2I3 Current Account(s),
we may change them to another current account. We will give you at least two months’ personal notice if we decide to change the account.
If you are not happy with the change, you are free to close the account or there may be other current accounts available to you.0 -

Whilst 3%(less tax) is more than most ISAs available now, I have an ISA with Santander @ 2.3% and indeed a 3.1% ISA term has just finished. Could the OP have one of these? He/she hasn't said they have 'just' put £11k into an ISA.
Apart from the above, the dilemma for many of us is we are wary of 'cashing in' ISAs and losing their tax free status forever; albeit the forthcoming £1k tax free interest allowance will affect the strategy for many people.0 -
is the 2.3% offer still about?0
