    Not sure if they would still be my partner if they where arguing over who should pay. !!!!

    Did this happen in your house? If so ???? sorry. Yes in the strictest sense your daughter your fault. But omg what next will the sue you if they fall down the stairs. Put a claim in if they burn their mouth on a cup of tea you made.

    Partners should take the good and bad. You have an eight year old, she is not going to go away so sorry love me love wart's and all. Sorry but I think your partner is being a little petty.

    I can kind of see both sides.

    I certainly wouldnt be expecting partner to pay the full costs simply because they put their glasses on the sofa arm.

    With experience, I'm surprised the glasses broke just from the fall. If the lense has just popped out, it's usually fairly straigh forward to pop them back in. You mentioned the frame was cracked? - were these glasses a fair few years old?

    Vision express do glasses cover, so you only pay a fixed amount for full repair or replace when you buy a new pair. I think it would be good if you paid for this, so in the future the cost would at least be a small amount and not cause any real issues.

    Is it just me or am I missing something?
    How did the glasses crack and the lens fall out just by them being occidentally knocked off the arm of the chair?

    Blimey I've knocked my specs off my side table half way across the wooden bedroom floor many times in the middle of the night - not even a dent!

    If you were visiting an aunt (for example) and your child knocked the glasses off and they broke then you'd certainly expect to at least offer to pay for them.

    If you, your daughter and your partner were a family unit then it would come down to one of those things that as a family you pay for as part of family life.

    What is slightly weird here is you refer to the owner of the glasses as your partner but seem to have the sort of financial relationship you would have with a distant relative. I guess it takes all sorts but if the relationship is to be serious long term then you are going to need to find a way to deal with this sort of thing without needing advice.

  • Are you sure they were just knocked onto the floor? I've never broken a pair of glasses despite dropping them/ sitting on them many times over the years. Sounds like a lot of damage for falling off the arm of a sofa, and I think you should pay.

    I would like to think that in this situation the outcome would have been;

    OP: "I am so sorry, i will pay for them to be repaired or replaced"

    Partner: "No, that's ok, I enjoy having you and little one over"

    OP: "well at least let me pay half"

    Partner: "ok thats fair"
