Gotogate spelling error

booked virgin flights with gotogate and put an extra letter in my mum's christian name by mistake, gotogate say KLM have to authorise the change and KLM say Gotogate can do it - im stuck between the two of them now
KLM say they wouldnt make a charge but GTG say they will charge me over £130 which i find staggering! im tempted to just take the flight and see what happens - any similar experiences or guidance would be appreciated

You've now discovered the downside of booking through a 3rd party to save a few quid. I'm sure lots of people travel successfully every day with minor typos in their ticketed name. It's no guarantee you mom won't have problems but like you I would be inclined to chance it.

KLM are really good with this usually. Call them again and explain what the agent is asking for the change. Also ask if this could be changed at the airport's KLM ticket desk free of charge on the day of departure.

KLM are emphatic that legally they cannot change a single letter on passenger booking info so im a bit stuck - its a pretty complex situation, spoken to virgin today and they said the same that Gotogate have to change it and even after four emails they still havent responded to my concerns - pretty shoddy really so cant say i would recommend them

I think if you look at the reviews, you will struggle to find many that would recommend them!
Although KLM say they would fix it for free that is not relevant to your ticket as they cannot touch it as you booked through an agent so the charges will be determined by whatever you agreed to in the T&Cs for gotogate
Was there a reason you chose not to book direct with the airline?

I assume you mean cheapest, not best.

without knowing gotogate i selected the best flight in terms of timings, airports and price, there are more elements than price to consider when booking a flight

you are correct which is why most people would suggest using a site like skyscanner to identify the best in terms of timings, airports etc then go to the airline website to book what you had found
At a minimum, if looking to give your money to someone you were not familiar with, you should do some research before booking. I expect if you had done this, you would not have booked with them (saving you this problem)

it would be far more productive if i could find out how i can challenge the extortionate fees proposed by Gotogate for the removal of one letter, beginning to think that this site is populated by over-zealous teachers!

Difficult... you could take them to court on the basis that their "fee" is actually a penalty charge (which is illegal), but that could prove messy.
