Does either the halifax or 123 account state the direct debits must be monthly?

    One does one doesn't.

There is a massive hint in the first sentence of the third paragraph of post ten in this very thread

Santander DD's just have to be "active" and don't need to go out each month. So PayPal or an unused CC still qualify you for interest.

In fact they don't need to go out at all.

If they're not used at least once every thirteen months they'll lapse under DD dormancy rules, so don't take that thinking too far!

I've just realsised I may have not been doing this right.

Had a Halifax reward account for 2 months, and have Tesco & Paypal DD's set up, and paid in at least £750 at the end of every month.
I've not been doing anything with the DDs as I thought they only had to be 'set up'.
But I've not had any £5's.

you can have paypal set up on 1 or more accounts i do a 1p direct debit on the 15th through ebay to pay my seller fees to halifax and 1p on the 17th same as but to santander you can do it as many times a month from different accounts
I just tried to do this within ebay but it said my currency was wrong (it's GBP), and I did set up £1 through the 'credit card' option (using my H debit card), but it didn't ask me what date to come out etc like a DD normally does.
I usually pay ebay fees automatically with Paypal.

When you can do all that is required using Tesco accounts, why bother with Paypal?

EDIT: As has already been said, read post #10

I'd been told about that but had seen lots of DD's still active from 2010/2009 so I'm not sure how much that does happen but definitely worth taking no chances on :)

I read this earlier today somewhere as I was looking for the answer myself but it's music to my ears to hear that this is not the case.
