Absolutely not the most appropriate question; but what car was it?

The same thought occurred to me - there aren't many "ordinary" cars that will do 130 mph. My vote is for a troll.

Hardly... the majority of the Mondeo range can top 130. It's the same story with a lot of pretty standard family cars. Even a boring old Honda Civic 1.8i VTEC will do 133.

Volvo V70 range? 130+ is not unusual. Passat? Same again.

    But yes, probably a troll.

True, but it's hard to imagine those vehicles practically achieving 105mph in typical 30mph limit conditions; which suggests something very small and light with a big engine and brakes. Or a troll.

You are correct, there are different force policies which cap non-advanced trained drivers, in other words police drivers who have successfully completed the national three week standard response course.

Some forces have also introduced these caps of +20mph for standard response, other forces haven't, also some forces have capped Police advanced drivers with various speeds, but very few have, but any decision to cap a speed is up to these are individual force policy decisions and are not legally enforceable in a court of law for speed offences, purely with internal PSD investigations.

130 to 140 is top end of routine immediate response speeds, depending on the urgency of the situation and conditions. Only our advanced drivers have the cars to do that speed.
Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.

130 /140 would need some very very serious justification by the officer as to the circumstances and nature of the call and mainly restricted to motorway and dual carriageways.

They may quote those as top speeds but it doesn't mean the car can realistically do those, I've driven several cars at the Nurburgring all rated for above 140mph top speed and could barely get past an indicated 120mph before the car was topping out on the long straights.

I'm not saying it's impossible just that it's nowhere easy as it looks in practice with the cars you've mentioned.

Depends on many factors of course, but in a car limited to 155mph on a quiet three lane motorway, these speeds are entirely doable and no less safe than, say 120mph.
Our responses often require travelling significant distance on quiet motorway, often to RTCs in the knowledge that the ambulance will be 15 or more minutes behind us; so those speeds are quite routine.

Only footballers are allowed to travel at those speeds, even the police would get slapped wrists.
I hope whoever was the driver has got deep pockets to pay the barrister they will need to defend them in court.

They will get legal aid unless they have £37500 disposable income per annum.

A few years ago I got stopped on bike for doing "In excess of 120" Copper was on entrance slip road as I went past him, unmarked car. He saw that I was speeding and pulled me, gave me a right old b*ll*king, and sent me on my way, must have passed the attitude test.
Last week I attended a SAC for 74 in a 60 in car!
Bring back the traffic police, at least you stand a chance with them.
I too would like to see the stretch of road where OPs car hit 105 in a 30.
