3 weeks and 300 miles - that's your underlying problem.

Depends, I would have thought. I've done about 180 in that period but 150 was a return trip to aged parent on fast roads. Apart from that a once a week trip for a bigger shop which I sometimes combine with a trip to the dump. Occasional 25 e.w dashes down the motorway to watch matches, but only the evening ones when the train is a pain. For the rest its legs, bike, train.

I do 7/8000 a year and a lot of that is my skiing trip and a summer heading north to visit friends. I shan't be buying a diesel, but surely it's not necessarily just the mileage but the pattern of usage?

As the car is in warranty period and they are saying they are unable to rectify the issue invoke your next right on sale of goods.
    demand a replacement or refund.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

OP, just to stress, LR and other manufacturers are pointing to the sensors as faults. While there will be some genuine failures, they most often are acting exactly as designed; their "cure" is to alter the software to allow a wider tolerance in operation so that the ecu doesn't trigger a warning light on the dash. Nothing of value is actually being changed, just the dashboard isn't indicating what the original engine designer decided was acceptable.
Until they're actually improving and fitting new engine hardware, your not getting a cure, they are masking an underlying fault. The early Jaguar X Type diesels are an example, they tinkered with the software to keep the customers happy (no warning lights!) but they often failed their first MOT as their actual, running emissions were so high!

I had the red dpf light and it was a sensor fault.

The red light will come on if you ignore the orange dpf light and don't take the car for a run.

The car will then go into limp mode to protect the turbos.

Not sure why MarktheShark thinks this is a SOGA situation.

It is merely a warranty repair.

The supermarket fuels are certified to the standard required by the manufacturer, if the car can't run on supermarket fuel then there's a fault somewhere - none of my diesel cars had trouble with supermarket fuel (nor anyone else I know who fills up regularly with it), if a car has ended up 'smoking like a dog with injectors sounding like a bag of spanners' there was clearly something else very wrong with it. Given the large number of cars using supermarket fuel if it had the terrible effect on cars you've claimed, there would be widespread and consistent problems affecting huge numbers of cars relating specifically to supermarket fuel yet there aren't.

Eloys and adblue are very specific cases that have no relevance at all to additives in fuel.

As I assume colino was referring to, it's just an easy cop out for companies to blame problems on supermarket fuel.

    John

You do realise that the additives you buy to help your DPF regen, loads of companies do them now, Wynns JLM etc which are very similar to Eloys fluid and merely reduce the temperature the a regen can take place. They also make up a similar % of the fuel to the additive package.

You carry on buying Supermarket diesel if you like, I honestly don't care.

But if you think supermarket fuel is the same as premium fuel when considered as a whole then you are mistaken.

Yes the only difference may be the additive package, but ask yourself the question.

What would happen to the DPF in an Eloys tank equipped diesel if you added no Eloys? Obviously ignoring the fact the ECU would likely put the engine in limp mode.

I know a Co that has drivers that have never had a DPF light come on in a vehicle ever and they do 35/40k a year mostly round London with short runs round the M25 often in heavy traffic. Are they lucky? Or is the fact they have only ever been run on Shell V Power significant?

The fact that he has never had any EGR problems is also probably a coincidence.

In fact the EGRs on my Jag have also been trouble free.

And since regularly using Shell V Power diesel I have not had the red light come back on, actually I have only had to take it for one Regen run, when previously I would have to do it twice a week sometimes more.

I would suspect you would have similar results using BP or Esso.

And if you want the Clubcard points you can use an Esso Station with a Tesco Metro attached.

But again, you make your own choice based on your experiences.

Gosh sorry to hear about your bad experience its dream shattering finally getting something youve worked hard to save for and then this happends
Sorry i cant be of any help but keep us updated.

Thought I would give you an update as people did ask me to. The dealership called me and said the July fix date has been delayed further and they have no new date. As you can imagine I am not best pleased so I decided to speak to trading standards and citizens advice to understand my rights to ask for a full refund. They were very helpful and under the sales of goods act and the limitations act I have a very strong case. Armed with this information I spoke to the dealership manager yesterday and told him enough was enough and I wanted them to keep the car and give me a full refund. The manager said this was a reasonable request but he would like to offer me an alternative solution, a new car! (Subject to Land Rover and dealership HQ agreement). So i have agreed for him to look into this option further but I have made it very clear it has to be a brand new car ( the new model out in Sept) with the same spec as my current car or higher and if it isn't I want a full refund . Let's wait and see what he comes back with.

some of the advice on here is incorrect. 300 miles is not aproblem. its how those 300 miles are driven thats the issue. in order for the dpf regenerate ie raise the exhaust temp to over 500degrees and clear the filter out you need to be driving for at least 15-20 mins over 2000rpm.
Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.

If you are doing a lot of start stop driving this is not the car for you.the dealer should have explained that. A dpf will regenerate several times probably without you realising it (i can smell mine along with tapping of metal when the regen has completed)its really important your driving style matches what a dpf needs, else this problem will never go away

Not sure if you would really be 'reasonably' entitled to this - especially since your point all along has been 'this is taking too long', and now you'll potentially cause a delay yourself by taking the newer model.
If you can get ANY brand new one (or anything with lower mileage and at least as good spec as yours) you should bite their arms off!
