I remember very well what a pain in the rear end it was to type a bank statement on a manual typewriter!
I remember about 30 plus years ago asking the manager for a temporary overdraft of £150. Then when I wanted to make it permanent the sub manager said if it were up to him no problem but the manager does not like you.
Thankfully we now have credit scoring systems.0 -

Not all lending decisions are purely based on credit scores. Some are still assessed manually.0 -
I find it horrible how people look down at people in certain roles. If people think the roles are so easy, then they'd be doing that role and excelling at it.
You can't judge a management role from what you've just seen on TV, the bank won't just divulge all their internal processes and extra duties staff may do.0 -

Me too.
I think that people from an older generation will always hark back to when they think things were much better. It's always been that way.0 -

This is presumably in the same period that you were stating :
In those days I use to have the greatest respect for the staff who worked in banks
I'm completely lost with your reasoning.
Treating people on how they treat and handle me rather than sweeping generalisations is my definition of respect.
Anyway back to the programme....0 -

Sorry you have lost your reasoning. Hopefully in time and the correct medication it may return. Keep taking the tablets.0 -

So totally contradicting what you said previous, about total respect for the staff many years ago, compared to now where majority of decisions are made by computers.0 -
Just because I was working then does not mean I am not working now!
I am perfectly well aware of how the workplace (or rather society in general) has changed for the better, but that has diddly squat to do with the fact that "bank managers" today are not doing a highly skilled and responsible professional job requiring years of experience and a deep knowledge of local commerce - a fact which you took umbridge at it being pointed out.
I'm happy you are still working today, but again show respect for those who work and put money into the system.
Suggest you try being a bank manager yourself if you think you can do better. Prepare to take a huge pay cut though.0 -
It would only be an increase if they appointed someone external to the organisation and had to beat their existing salary. The existing position was someone acting up, but I would expect it be similar to anyone who worked up inside the company.
She is a manager of 30 staff, so a small department size. Managers of larger branches probably earn less.
I'd suggest 30 staff is a bigger branch than most in the network.0 -
Comfortably in the top 10% of biggest branches I would say. Most of the branches around my way operate with 3-6 staff members.0
