Motorway Speed limits?? (in red lit circles)- are these strict to camera fines ??

Not all of the gantries have cameras, so glance across to the other lane, and if there are no cameras on that gantry, they will not be on your side either.
I've seen a number of NIPs come through for these on my fleet for the M40, M25 and M1, and they tend to be for a minimum of 47mph or 58mph, presumably under a 40 or 50 sign.
I'm also seeing a lot more HADECS 3 camera NIPs come through as well. These are the stealthy grey boxes tucked into the side of a gantry. http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/hadecs-3.htm<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

How many do you get through for the variable speed limit cameras when there's no variable speed limit in force?
Put another way, are the cameras working when the speed limit signs are off?0 -

They can try and prosecute you but any defence lawyer (or even the motorist themselves) should easily be able to get the case kicked out of court.
This is because the equipment used by the police and safety camera partnerships is only accurate to 2mph so if it gives a reading of 51mph you could in reality be doing 49mph.
I will find the relevant info and paste it shortly.0 -

Hence why I didn't mention speed detecting equipment, just stated the fact that if you *are* doing 51MPH in a 50MPH limit, you *can* be prosecuted.
It may well require the equipment to say '53MPH' on the display, but you're still doing 51...0 -

In which case you can again get the case kicked out of court.
If the detection equipment states 53mph then this is what must be stated on the prosecution paperwork. The figure can't just be amended to take in to account an error that may be present with the equipment used.0 -
HADECS cameras seem to be recording all the time based on the date and time-stamps of the NIP, overhead variable cameras only seem to be operational when the reduced limits are in force. That's based on my non-scientific observations over the last few weeks, on a fleet of 5000-ish vehicles.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0

Really depends on the equipment - laser speed devices are extremely accurate, to fractions of an mph for example.
The main reason for the ACPO guideline on prosecution thresholds comes from the inaccuracy of vehicle speedometers, and to avoid just this type of marginal argument.0 -
The ones on the M62 "smart motorway" section appear not to be following ACPO guidelines?
The last stats i saw for the money they'd made in 2015 showed that 30% of those captured in the 50mph enforcement were HGV.
The restriction of 56mph on such vehicles would suggest that they couldn't be getting caught (and certainly not in such high numbers) if ACPO guidelines were used.
I've certainly seen lorries that should be limited hitting 60mph.0
