Dartford Crossing

How are you supposed to take in some website or phone number plus some new-fangled way of paying tolls and write it all down when you are supposed to be concentrating on the road and driving carefully?0
-
At £2.50 each way for low usage (it's much cheaper for regular users which is annoying) that tenner may not last long.
It's still free in the late evening til very early morning I believe .
The lines at the toll booths were slow so for many this system is an improvement (although more expensive than it morally should be)
u dont have to be a regular user just set up an account and keep it topped up you ge tit for 1.67 per crossingWhat goes around-comes around0 -

I use the crossing 4 times a year, and have setup a dart charge account with £10 credit and auto topup. The charge as quoted is £1.67 per crossing on the account as a standard charge, not the £2.50 you need to pay if you do not have an account.0 -
It's about time the various organisations and local authorities etc. got together and allowed a universal payment system for parking and tolls and the like.
Just don't let a government IT department run it and it'll be fineChange is inevitable, except from a vending machine.0 -

Er, it's £1.67 a crossing and I don't use it very often. I've topped it up once since it started and still have a balance of £13+ so it works for me.0 -
I guess I confused it in my mind with the low emission zone signs I used to drive past near Heathrow that are for trucks.
The first time I saw one of those, I was nearly signing up to pay congestion charge...
Don't assume it's going to stay like that - it might surprise some folks what vehicles are already covered by the London LEZ - many vans and campers are included, not just the LGVs.
There is/are going to be lots more LEZs soon and they will be including cars - eventually, if they are not already included as in Germany and Czech Republic.
Lots of UK cars get caught out in Munich for example.

What we need is a standard Europe wide system - and that doesn't look like what we are going to get - I've already got 3 different stickers on the windscreen.0 -
I agree the signs are bad - and I live in SE London and knew the change was coming. When my parents came down from Yorkshire last time, they had the pile of change ready in the car as always and then turned up at my place saying what's going on? (I lent Dad my laptop to pay online and pre-pay the return crossing).
The signs do need to be a lot clearer.I need to think of something new here...0 -
Did you pay for the return journey?
Next time try going North to Scotland where we don't have toll bridges and tunnels any more.
What exactly is the Dartford Crossing toll charge for, as the bridge paid for itself in 2002/3?
Just another rip-off, the charge was supposed to expire when the bridge was paid for but the Govt. snuck in a small clause buried in the small print of an unrelated bill to keep the charge going forever because they're cynical sneaky robbing !!!!!!!s.0 -
just to add again i went through the other day both sides not one sign telling me how to pay just a dart charge sign with a c in it and the free times to pas throughWhat goes around-comes around0

Yep definitely, as a previous post said, the bridge was paid for back in 2003, they are doing minor works here & there but the charges don't look to be going anywhere in a hurry, a nice little earner from the pockets of the people as per usual0
