I have been in a similar situation to you’re and I think you will find that many people that use this forum have also been in a similar situation.
Due to being out of work due to illness for about 6 years, we got into debt of just over £21,000.
I went with one debt Management Company that were rubbish, they were making my situation worse and they were also charging me every month to use there service.
I then contacted Payplan which can be found here; https://www.payplan.com
They are absolutely great and they don’t charge you a monthly fee. I was asked if I wanted to take an insurance out that will cover us in the unlike hood my wife or myself are unable to work and I believe we are also covered for death, but this was only £9 a month for the both of us .
Give them a call they will help REDUCE THE WORRY by dealing with your creditors for you. Enabling you to concentrate on repaying your debt at a realistic, affordable rate.
At the end of the phone call you will fill like a massive weight has been lifted of your shoulders and someone is on your side.
As I said my debt was over £21,000 and with next months payment I will be down to just under £7,000.
Give them a call they are on your side.
Hope it works out. It’s nice to be important but it’s more important to be nice. :dance:0 -

Why do you not want to tell him? Are you scared of how he will react?
You really need to tell him. Do you think he will be more angry about the fact you got in to debt, or you've kept it secret from him for all this time? Unless he is an unreasonable person I think the answer would be the latter
If you have any form of joint finances, a DMP is not an option, if you don't want him to find out. It will wreck his credit rating and the chances are he will get refused ANY type of credit, until your debt is paid off, so it's almost certainly going to come to light at some point.
But with your limited personal income, I can't see you being able to sort this without a DMP or you getting your DH on board I'm afraid, and I can't see one happening without the other.0 -
You'll need your husband on board for this one, but, how about selling up, moving nearer to OH workplace, and buying cheaper, you have a lot of equity tied up in your house.0

He works all over the country so there is no where that is near his work. He works from home some weeks as well.
We prefer to stay here because I am near my family and that is a great help with my health condition.0 -
Are you being medicated or otherwise treated for the depression?

Your choice but I fail to see how you will get this resolved otherwise, given Your minimal income and your inability to enter a DMP without him finding out.0 -

I respect your decision not to tell your husband. I have cleared £21,000 of debt without telling anyone. I am lucky enough to have a decent paying second job though.
If your finances are separate enough you may be able to do a DMP without him finding out but you would have to be prepared for the possibility. I would advise you to talk to a non fee-charging company such as Step Change to get their advice about this.
And stay on here and consider all advice; it is kindly meant. You don't have to take it all! I would never have survived without this forum.

My husband knows I have debts but not how much. Mine were run up beofre him though. I see it as my problem to sort it.
I guess we are all different and have to deal with things in our own way.
I hope you find a way to sort things out. Just make sure you look after yourself too.

Any chance you could sell one (or both) cars, and buy something cheaper and/or more economical, cheaper to insure and/or tax?0
