Do you ALWAYS check your receipts?

I try and check mine the majority of the time but sometimes dont.

I went into sainsbury's on saturday and i was checking the reciept on the way to the car and i was shocked to discover that i had been charged twice for my bread. Obviously i went back and got my one pound something back but i began thinking about how many people just dont check? (pls dont have a go about the price of bread my brother is on a special diet and he has done really well and so had to get this bread!)

I have found this happen to me in Asda too.

I was thinking how much more money supermarkets make with this and are they genuine mistakes?

Are there any supermarkets who are particularly bad with this?

Do people generally check?

I was overcharged yesterday in Asda on a top for my ds1, i checked the receipt in the car park and went straight back in.
I had to remind the customer service man to give me the £2 gift card though.
That then made the top free so left feeling happy.....
  • Not quite the same but I was in a mobile phone shop yesterday, bought something for £9.99 and gave the sales assistant a £10 note. She gave me the receipt and the item.

me "can I have my change please"
    her "its only 1p"
    me "but its my 1p"
her "I'll have to open another till"
me "thats fine, I can wait"

My husband was mortified with me but I thought if she does that everytime she has a sale it is soon going to add up!

I try to check it but if your in a hurry I sometimes wait till I get home. Last week I did this and found that Tesco has charged me full price for a whoopsie item. Not to be done, my OH said to save the box and receipt and I'll take it back next week. Not only that but I also had some finest special bread that was a whoopsie and it went mouldy almost straight away but OH wouldn't let us thow it out and sure enough, he went in this week and got both items refunded in full and double the amount it should have been back!

If I had done that I wouldn't have got that much! I will say he does have knack of doing this due to me not checking all the time :rotfl: LOL

He even once tried to take some bad oranges back to Mr T's when they were bought in Sainsbury's :o - it didn't work though!

Hello, I always check my receipt-as shops are always making mistakes and then if you try going back in you sometimes have problems getting your money back. I check before i leave!

I will admit to virtually never checking the receipt ooops

I know I should but with 3 kids trailing with me I don't have a chance to stop to check the receipt so its usually scrunched up and binned lol

I should make more of an effort to check though

I do, although I'm not sure that I'd ever spot anything that was wrong as I don't know prices that well. I did once have some bananas that were put through as mushrooms though

Oh, I had that at Waitrose once - because bananas are heavy and mushrooms expensive three bananas ended up costing me about £5!

I normally check it just in case, but most of the time I get my shopping delivered from Tesco. Now I just irritate the delivery man whilst I check everything off as it comes in the door :p

  • Since I started scanning my shopping for factfinders I am suprised at how often I find mistakes. Sometimes though it is very difficult to work out what an item on the receipt actually is.

Asda are terrible. I'm nearly always charged twice for something or the rollback price on the shelf is actually full price at the till.
