TSB account opened but letter to pop in branch?

It's a pretty standard request to ask someone to provide ID its nothing to worry about.
It may be, but I must then be non-standard. I have opened at least 11 accounts in the last 3 years, and the only times that I've been asked to provide ID was by Metro, when opening an account in branch, and Nationwide, who I'd been banking with for over 10 years at the time, and that was only because they needed an updated specimen signature entirely unconnected with account opening.0 -

Few days later I tried to transfer money in and the payment got rejected. Two phone calls later I need to go into branch to provide ID which I did today and all ok. Got back home and had a CIFAS letter from them as they thought someone was applying in my name and to go into branch with ID! Will try and find out on Monday what caused the trigger.
I have to restart the switch process again but looks like some companies have already changed DD details.
Exactly the same happen to me. I visited the branch last Tuesday. ID provided. They had to ring through to Fraud dept. All was sorted and account unblocked.
It makes me think what actually triggered these checks as this has not happened in any of my other applications such as YB, Co-OP & M&S.0 -
There is a big industry wide issue right now with impersonation on PCAs, you have either (i) failed electronic ID&V or (ii) passed it but there has been some impersonation in your area and the bank are just being cautious. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

This is before the banking crisis. A relative had a Lloyd's account for years, but stopped using it. Tried to do telephone banking and her birthday was incorrect! They said she had to bring proof of ID to branch.
Her birthday was 00/00 ! They moved to a new computer, and the data entry clerk was too lazy to type her birthday in!!
So, don't assume it's you.0 -

Called TSB today and the reason for my ID check was impersonation in my area and the bank being extra cautious.0 -

Can I ask where in UK you are?
My wife & myself were both accepted but it was only when I phoned up because I couldn't transfer money in that I was told I needed to take ID into a branch.
We did that a couple of weeks ago, phoned up this morning & was told it must be the manager who sees the ID! so have to return again..
Not very impressed so far.0 -
That's why I'm confused.
Applied online, confirmed and passed checks and issused account details straight away. Never had a problem with online applications. Am on electoral register.
Full online banking has also been successfully activated.
I'm more intrigued as to what's going on.
They probably just want an opportunity to give you a hard sell.
A credit card would be my guess ...0 -

I is a genius! Or I have inside information ☺️The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

Nothing of the sort, additional checks are done independently of the online application process with regard to impersonation as I mentioned further up the thread. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0
