  • He won't be able to keep the phone and receive a full refund, he'll only get to keep the phone if you issue a partial refund. Stick to your guns regarding a full refund and be polite as possible, its all you can do really. The excuses for not returning the phone says it all really, like I said the hint of a partial refund from a buyer early on would raise suspicions.

Is this all being done through messages at this point or has your buyer opened up a return request/dispute/case?

Hed opened a dispute becausd id stupidly missed his first messages and not responded. Thats interesting bout the refund. No I'm being nicer than pie to him, apologising etc , its worth it just to get my phone back.

P.S. does anyone know what he means when he says the battery is 'puffy?'

Didn't some Samsung batteries have issues with swelling? If so it sounds like he's playing on a known issue to try and get you to agree to the partial. Make sure you get the batteries back when he returns although I would imagine he will have kept your good ones and send back his own 'puffy' faulty one, unfortunately with nothing you can do about it :(

Heather, I would stand your ground. You need the phone back to see if it was damaged in transit as you know it was perfect when sent. If it gets returned, you'll then be able to compare the item with the photos in the sale and the IMEI numbers etc, but I really don't think they are going to return it as they are already stalling for time.

I've sent him a v. nice email to ask him to explain the battery fault but his manner wasn't v. Nice. I'm so upset by this but know ebay always takes the buyers side. :(

This may or may not apply here, but:

Person has worn out phone and wants a new one, for nothing.

Buy nice phone off ebay, pay by paypal.

Pretend there's something wrong with new phone.

    Raise dispute.

Either send back old phone and get refund, or just get a refund and get to keep both phones.

Buyer gets free phone shipped for free, ebay gets a load of fees, seller gets cheated out money by ebay and loses phone and shipping cost and still has to pay ebay/paypal fees, and gets a black mark for being a dishonest trader.

Ebay fanbois on forums blame seller for being cheated out of money by ebay.

Yes, but if they actually went through with that, what they are doing is committing fraud and actually sending you the evidence.

    You forgot the :-
Buyer has phone where battery is knacked, buys same phone on ebay, swaps battery over, raises dispute and gets free battery.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
  • it has been known for batteries to bloat for no reason. I had a small Samsung phone that went un-used for about a year, when I got it out to use it again all seemed well once charged but a few hours later it was dead and the battery cover had popped off exposing a rather swollen battery. That being said it sounds to me that this buyer is trying it on with either a switcheroo with either the phone and or battery or they've dropped the phone, damaging it themselves or they're just telling stories to try and obtain a refund.
  • I'm a bit anal with my phones. When I told friends bout the cracks and the scratches they were like What? Your phone's are always perfect. Just before i sold it I took the screen protector off and rubber phone cover first time in 2 years and checked the handset and it was perfect. The phone had 2 batteries and I used these up to the day I sold it, again no problems whatsoever. This Samsung S3 was my favourite phone and is why I ended up upgrading to a S5 because it never failed me. They way it was packaged would have been an impossibility for the phone to have been damaged in transit.
I'm gonna be sweetness and light till I get it posted back to me. What a shame that just a few sneaky people make things so difficult.
  • Its a shame that sort of thing seems to be happening more and more often on ebay.
