Well, the problem with this is you have to make extra money.... and £1000 of it.
Between now and Xmas. So, in 16 weeks.
£1000/16= £62/week.
So, I'd have to get a 2nd job, which could take a month, leaving 12 weeks.
So £1000/12= £83/week.
A part-time job will pay minimum wage. Which after tax is £3.58/hour.
So a part-time job on top of a full-time job and travelling to/from a full-time job and running a home and other commitments would need to be for 24 hours a week.
Am I missing something here? That's a tall order....0 -
What about ebay selling/car boot sales/ cashback sites. along with reducing current expences where possible/looking to cheaper suppliers for electricity/gas/phone ect.
Someone on MSE (gingham ribbon I think) Has an excellent signature:
"Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like hard work. Thomas Edison."
There's nothing missed, all that's needed is the drive, determination and the ambition to get there. A grand don't come for free, to coin a phraseDebt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

Um... well I started two weeks ago - not that you can tell from my pathetic total so far!
And I'm going for the full £1000, but you can do £750 or £500 if you like?
I'm planning on achieving my £1000 with eBay. carboots and a big dose of positive thinking, but everyone's got their own plan.
Give it a go - I figure even if I don't make the full £1000 I'll still make something!

So no ebay or car booting
I don't buy things, so no cashback sites
I have minimised my current expenses as I am in a houseshare. Although getting a self-contained bedsit this week which will have electricity, no gas. Not sure about phone yet, if it has one, which is cheapest.
So I guess it's not for me then.
I don't need the money, so it's not an issue.
I guess I was looking at how to "earn" that much extra in that timeframe. By working. Which is the only way I could do it in my circumstances.
I guess the only way for me to attempt it is to find some way to trade something by buying/selling or start a business... I'll get my thinking cap on!
As unlikely as it seems, I'll also see if I can find some peculiar part-time job that pays above minimum.
It's all got me thinking.
If I do it, I can then look to donating the money to some useful charity for Xmas perhaps.0 -
Hi again sweetie,
My 18 yo son has a p/t job as a kitchen assistant / trainee chef at almost £8 an hour - but he's been there a few months working up to that.
My last bar / waitress job paid £7 an hour plus half as much again in tips...
So it can be done honeybun.
I'm thinking of getting a temp christmas job in the evenings and at weekends, but I have childcare to factor in as well so we'll see!
Love Jacks xxx
PS Forgot to say I do need the money so I am prepared to try anything! Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -

Have a look at mystery shopping and survey sites. Cashback sites have offers where you just click through (without buying anything) and you earn that way, along with signing up to sites for freebies which earns points/pence. There are loads of ways to add a little extra to your current income.
Have a look at the first thread in Debt Free Wannabe about maximising income, there are lots of helpfull snippets in there. All the best!Debt free since 2014 - now saving for a mortgage deposit :heart2:

I can't see how it's possible to maximise something as fixed as income without taking on another job.0 -

Hmm when you say it like that I am no longer confident I can do this giving I don't even quite have £30 after 2 weeks! lol
Cashback doesn't have to be about spending money - a lot of cashback sites offer you rewards for signing up to other sites and stuff.

As someone mentioned earlier there is mystery shopping.
Go to carboot sales and buy dirt cheap items clean them up and sell them on on Ebay and you could make profit!
Check this thread out to give you a kick start: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=338682
When shopping buy loads of whoopsies to base your meals on and however much your item was reduced by -drop that amount in a piggybank or use coupons and pay yourself the amount you have saved
There are loads of things you can do - but you need to think outside of the box!
Jacks darling - don't worry you are beating me!! :TDream of being mortgage free....

I meant to say hon, have you got any advice to offer us on Jamiedodgers "Simple Life" thread - since you seem to have achieved the state of unencumberment we're all aiming for. (Not sure if unencumberment is even a word, but hopefully you know what I mean!)
