Hello all,
I drive a car, and give respect to all road users on the road.
Today, I was driving the correct way along a one way street, when a cyclists, dressed in cycle gear decided to cycle at me. I told the cyclist it was a one way street, and the cyclist told me there was plenty of room on the road.
As a moterist, i so hate cyclists who blatently refuse to follow the highway code.
The cyclist clearly saw the no entry signs, but ignored them.
Wearing expensive gear, its clear, he cycles alot. I cant stand these sorts of cyclists.

Firstly, much respect to you if you give respect to other road users. That is a good (and rare) quality to have.
I nearly wiped out a cyclist in a similar situation, but I was also on a (push) bike. I entered a one way road (I was going the right way), and some git was driving the wrong way. I came within a few inches of making contact, and I'm quite a tall/built person so it would have hurt him more than me.
Secondly, whilst on my motorbike a cyclist drifted into the middle of the lane without signalling right (he wasn't turning right, he was probably just drunk). I gave him plenty of room, but due to his sway I came within a few inches of wiping him out. Had to stop and give him a telling off.
I see cyclists jump lights all the time too, and they have a peculiar habit of riding on the wrong side of the road which baffles me. Don't even get me started on car drivers, though, as they are the most life threatening to me! That is worthy of a whole thread to be fair.
Conclusion: consider every road user a git, and your life will be a lot easier.0 -

Do you only hate cyclists who refuse to follow it, or do you hate it when other motorists refuse to follow it as well?
I only ask as my experience of both a regular driver and regular cyclist i find far more motorists who don't obey the highway code than cyclists so it seems a bit strange to make a topic only targeting cyclists.trinidadone wrote: »The cyclist clearly saw the no entry signs, but ignored them.trinidadone wrote: »Wearing expensive gear, its clear, he cycles alot. I can't stand the type of motorist that only criticises cyclists because they don't cycle whilst ignoring all the people who drive poorly. All your base are belong to us.0 -
I find it worse when you're on a bike and other cyclists ignore things such as red lights.
In a car you don't have to personally expend much energy to get going again after stopping, but on a bike you have to dump all your hard earned speed each time you stop.
So it makes it all the more annoying when some lycra lout sails through the red light you've just correctly obeyed. Even worse on a long stretch with lots of lights when they keep passing you at reds because they are actually cycling a lot more slowly than you.0 -

I know what you mean.
The vast vast majority of cyclist in Central London now obey traffic lights and you can almost hear the displeasure amongst the cyclists who have stopped at the lights to the cyclist who sails through.
Zebra crossings seems to be ignored by more cyclists though, if you stop at a crossing to allow pedestrians to cross, very few cyclists adjust their speed to take into account they cannot see the crossing and the vehicle at the front has stopped so there are likely to be people crossing. I see so many near misses and actual cyclists hitting pedestrians.
You really need to have your wits about you when using a zebra crossing in heavy traffic in Central London0 -

I think the correct term is an LCT - lycra clad tw*t
I stopped at a chicane the other day to give way to a car coming out the village. The LCT that I had previously overtaken then chose to undertake me, then swerve out in front of me just as I was pulling away.
When he repeated this dangerous manoeuvre past a parked car on our side, I cut him up so he couldn't get through the inside, then was pleased to see the two cars behind also did the same. Comeuppance!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

It's referred to as filtering in the Highway code.
It also says when pulling away or driving in slow moving traffic to be aware of cyclists or motorcycles who may be filtering
It seems most motorists only dislike it because they're not allowed to do it.All your base are belong to us.0 -

You'd be surprised how many motorists i come across that clearly see speed limit signs, then ignore them.

Have to disagree with this in my experience up here in Newcastle - its far more often the cyclists that seem to to ignore the rules of the road rather than the cars. daily experience here seeing them running red lights, drifting lanes, wrong lanes etc. I ride, cycle and drive - so have no prejudice.
Worst one was once clipping a cyclist with my wing mirror - he was cycling the wrong way down the A19 in the dark, with no lights, no reflective gear and decided to jump off the path at the side of a bridge to try and cross all 4 lanes to get to the other side of the road straight in front of my car - he was so lucky that all he got was a clip on the elbow! no-one hurt but cost me £200 to get the wing mirror. he admitted it was his faulty - then naffed off before I could get his details - phoned the police, but understandably there was nothing they could do.0
