I had a spreadsheet on open office, earlier my laptop crashed, when I restarted it there were Windows updates installing, after this I went to open office and it asked me to set up a username etc
when I opened open office after this none of my old files/spreadsheets are there
is there a way of recovering them?

Not there in the quick launch screen or not there on your hard disk where they would have been saved? Sounds like just corrupted config files rather than document actually being wiped.Still rolling rolling rolling......

If you "show hidden files and folders" on the view menu of the file browser.
Openoffice usualy has a temporary copy of the file prefixed with the tilde (~)mark (i.e. : "~NewDocument.odt").
It should save the document automatically (of it's not been turned off!)Laters

I may need simpler language sorry, but if you mean the view menu on open office there is no "show hidden files and folders"
it seems that the windows updates wiped the old open office and I had to register againI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. So you have no back up to an external drive then? I'd do that as a priority before you lose all your data.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
