Hello hello all.
Just checking in, nothing very exciting money saving to report really.
I am however going to look at a sofa from Gumtree this weekend. I figured that something to tide me over for now is the way forward, and then I'll maybe find one in the sales later on. This one is just a little plain 2 seater, on for £75. This way my Mum also has somewhere to sit when she comes for Xmas. Fingers crossed it's a goodie.
I am going out for dinner this evening, really hope I don't spend too much! Must not get carried away!MFW Start:[STRIKE] Sep 2014 - £110,844[/STRIKE], July 2019 New Home £190,995

I know this is MFW but don't forget other things that can help you attain some flexibility in the need to work, or the type of work you can do. Houses don't generally pay an incomeand that mortgage rate is quite low (i.e. there are other options than mortgage overpayment that make you richer long term) to focus exclusively on.
If I could go back and talk to my early 30s self I would be advising me to save more, and not into bricks and mortar at a time of all time low interest rates.
Good luck with it.
Hello Nicknameless, cool name !
Just popped in. I didnt quite understand this "If I could go back and talk to my early 30s self I would be advising me to save more, and not into bricks and mortar at a time of all time low interest rates."
Surely the best thing you can do is be MF :j or try to be before interest rates rise and make the most of the situation. Maybe im reading this wrong or something.
Anyway im interested to hear what you thnk and why.

Hi Lucky,
I think it's great you got what you liked, it's not too bad a price really to be happy with something! I got the sofa from Gumtree, hoovered, febreezed and looking pretty good in the front room. At least now my Mum has something to sit on whilst she is here over xmas!
I am unsure on the next target at the moment as things may be about to take a turn at work. Until I know what is happening I can't really set any OP targets. I'll just carry on as I am for now, but try to cut back on food and luxuries etc. where I can.MFW Start:[STRIKE] Sep 2014 - £110,844[/STRIKE], July 2019 New Home £190,995

Hey all,
Hope you had a fun and spooky Halloween! I went to the cinema and watched an 11pm showing of 'The Crimson Peak', really good fun.
So in Money Saving news, as I'm sure you can see from my above post, I got the £75 sofa from Gumtree. It's in really good condition, I think they only had it for a year. My Mum will be very pleased she doesn't have to sit on a bean bag over xmas!
So xmas, it seems to have arrived early in Norfolk! The shops have gone mad with xmas stuff. I want to try to be thrifty for it this year. As I mentioned above, there may be changes at work, no one knows what yet, but I want to start to be prepared just in case. Helpfully I got a £25 JL voucher from my CC today, so that is one or two people getting a gift from there, I am also due some Marks vouchers soon tooMFW Start:[STRIKE] Sep 2014 - £110,844[/STRIKE], July 2019 New Home £190,995

Well another post from me today. Today feels like a bit of a kicker, turns out there is a crack in my chimney that was missed when it was tested and it is going to have to be re-lined. Ouch! Seeing as the fireplace has been restored it seems silly not to do it and use it, but it is expense I could do without. It does come with a 10 year warranty though and will all be HETAS certified, so will be useful if I sell the house in the future.
In money saving news, I sold three items on EB today and my ever fruitful penny pot has yielded up another £16! I have quite a few other bits and pieces to go onto ebay as well, so hopefully a few more pennies from those.
I have a small bag of scrap silver, can anyone recommend a good place to sell it?MFW Start:[STRIKE] Sep 2014 - £110,844[/STRIKE], July 2019 New Home £190,995

Who are you using? I'd really recommend getting a quote from battersby builders in Norwich who specialise in stoves and chimneys. They have all the relevant certificates too.0

Hey Cornercottage, I did see them online but couldn't find anyone that has used them so was a bit unsure. Have you used them yourself? I had a quote from Ecoflue today, another company that were meant to quote never turned upMFW Start:[STRIKE] Sep 2014 - £110,844[/STRIKE], July 2019 New Home £190,995

Yes I've used them to do an install also a stove renovation and chimney sweep too.
Have been very good on all occasions, I can't praise them enough.
David is a thoroughly nice bloke too as are the lads that work for him.
Definitely worth getting a quote in.0
