Short haul I've never used them as I don't live in their catchment.

Long haul I've used them a fair bit in recent times due to them being best on price/schedule. My experience is that you board a clapped out 747 (or slightly less clapped out 777) and get average service from some older cabin crew who earn a fortune but begrudge they still have to do the job to earn that fortune, and some younger crew who are just interested in getting there and getting to the bar.

The exception was the A380 last year. Great aircraft and the service was noticeably better. I guess because they've put a lot into the A380 product and the crew take pride in the new flagship.

Yes my post includes a lot of generalisations. But in economy every airline is much of a muchness. There's a handful I would absolutely avoid but other than that its always down to price and best schedule.

Are they the better British airline? Certainly the most expensive i believe, but are they worth the extra hundred quid or so?

Or.... who is the best to fly with? Not necessarily the most expensive, just the best airline?

The best airline that flies out of the UK is Qatar.

    BA don't even come close.

Closest I've come to being in a crash landing was BA back in 95. It was 19 years before I flew with them again.

To Greece, Aegean wipe the floor with BA, believe it or not. Better customer service, better food, and the best coffee and wine I've had on any European airline. They have the same kind of customer service vibe as Air New Zealand, who are my personal favourites.

I like Swiss too...more than Lufthansa. In fact...I'd personally rank them as...

    1. Aegean
    2. Swiss
    3. KLM
    4. Lufthansa
    5. Alitalia
    6. BA
    7. Vueling
    8. Iberia

Haven't flown with Air France, Brussels Air, LOT, SAS, TAP, etc.

  • No, to me the BA cabin crew are the most arrogant of all the airlines. I've also flown Kenya Airlines, Virgin, Air France, but to me Cathay Pacific are the best.

  • I loath travelling with BA and actively avoid them whenever I can.
    Supercilious flight attendants,average service,terrible food.
Any Middle East or Asian airline is streets ahead in almost every department.
Virgin used to be pretty good but sadly they've gone the way of BA.
