Hyundai on Watchdog Tonight

Don't know if they still do, but a few years ago garages switched to a Winter diesel with anti-waxing additives from October to March.
If you do little mileage you could still be running on the Summer blend.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Have just watched it on iplayer, and the complaints coming in suggest it's not just Hyundai, but many different models which does point a finger of suspicion at the fuel.0

European Biofuels Directive (2003/30/EC) requires that by 2020, 20% of road fuel must be bio fuel. To meet the directive, an increasing proportion of ordinary pump fuel contains bio. I think it is currently 7% for diesel, although it may have gone up to 10% by now.0 -
I really wish I'd seen this post more than 6 weeks ago as I am now going through the trauma of Hyundai claiming we have burnt the clutch out on my brand new 6 week old Hyundai i30! Yes you heard me right along with less than 500 miles on the clock (300 of which on the motorway). Customer service beyond disgraceful on their "assessment" and how I'm being treated as a customer. Not willing to consider that the car is 'not fit for purpose'. Any other experiences like this out there?0

Haven't heard of any serious reliability problems with the Met i30's, but then they are used to the reliability of Metros and Sherpas which would break down all the time, so perhaps they are just counting their blessings.
Sometimes cars fail, even a manufacturer can be supplied a duff clutch, they don't make clutches.
It is also not beyond the realms of possibility that some buyers of new cars do indeed burn out a clutch in a car they aren't used to.
When the clutch is stripped out there will be tell tail signs on the clutch that would indicate abuse.0 -
In 500 miles? Where 300 of those are motorway miles? Even an F1 car clutch will do better than that.
(We've no reason to presume the above poster is lying).0 -

I suggest you post this on the i30 owner club as they may be aware of known issues:

I have just joined this site and I have never been on a forum before!! What has made me do it now you may ask?!!! Well, my three and half year old Hyundai I10 22500 miles on clock has suddenly burnt out and Hyundai have refused to replace it under warrantly. Should probably feel lucky after reading the other reviews on this subject, but I am still complaining to Hyundai Customer Centre as like others, I have been driving for over 20 years, had various cars and have never ever burnt out a clutch. I am of the opinion that the clutch and flywheel are not fit for purpose on this car, especially as this car is sold as a small car meant for town/city driving. I was quoted over £700, garage relooked at price and quoted over £600, but bill finally came out at £585. I have paid, as I need my car back, but on the invoice I had 'paid in protest' written on before | paid. Also, the garage was unable to supply me with a courtesy car, which meant i was without a car for over a week. Also, the new parts (ie clutch and flywheel) have only 1 years guarantee on them, so if I have the same problem after one year, I will have to pay again!! Hyundai warranty states unlimited mileage and on parts like the clutch, there is a 2 year or 60,000 miles warranty. Hyundai have had me over a barrell!!! Beore this, I would have told friends and family to buy Hyundai, but not now! I will now go out of my way to tell everyone not to buy any of these cars!! Oh,and I have already informed friends and family that using the clutch is dodgy!! Will be looking to change car now. Will probably go back to Ford or Vauxhall as never had a problem this their cars.0

I bought one, secondhand of course, but I'm keeping money aside towards a replacement clutch if needed. Had to replace a clutch once before. That's living in London for you!
I think it's a great car for crowded city roads, narrow country lanes and small parking spaces, it's got loads of luggage space (for a city car) and fine to drive. It's an alright car for petrol consumption.
But the 5 year warranty business didn't factor into my purchase decision at all. How on earth can that be good value if you have to take the car to their garages and use their parts? If it sounds too good be true, it probably isn't.
That's like buying a cheap printer then noticing it's not a bargain if you're tied to using their ink, which is only just cheaper than panda tears.
I get the car serviced in my local reliable garage and use autoaid for breakdowns. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
