Cost Of Duty Free Bottles of Drinks in the Canaries

  • We also purchase our duty free spirits in a plastic bottle in the resort and put in our hold luggage.we have never heard of plastic bottles being a health issue. We have been a little naughty at times and brought another bottle of spirits whilst on holiday and have opened drunk some of it. We then have brought it back in our case in addition to our Duty Free allowance. i don't know if this is legally permitted but we have never been stopped.

We have always found Tenerife duty free very reasonable. For example in December we came home with a litre bottle of Carlos I for EUR 21 (equivalent then to about £15) which I thought was excellent value

Just be careful where you buy from. Last Christmas I bought for use whilst in resort a bottle of Courvoisier Champagne Cognac, from a small wine shop in the main st in Playa Blanca. It was 25 Euros. Looked online and it was cheap.

On opening, the cork snapped in the bottle, on getting it out eventually, the Cognac was awful.. Tasted like Sherry, a bad one at that. Took it back and they Kicked me out the shop ! Wouldn't swap it or anything.

Have spoken to others about the booze there and they do say a lot is fake and you don't know until you get home, so buy it from Reputable shops, Like ( in PB) the Spar shops, Mercadonna etc not the small Asian run shops, who seem to sell everything. There is a reason why it is cheaper.
