Graphics on Laptop

I have a Hewlett-Packard Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC Laptop which is giving me grief. The graphics are missing large parts of the screen most days now. The laptop is only 30 months old and a few months ago I had to fit a new hard drive.
On my errors for windows it says the AMD display adapter ATI Radeon Graphics card has stopped working so I guess that is the problem. My question is can this be fixed in my laptop and what sort of price would I be looking at?
Ever since I got my laptop it is very hot even with a fan running under it. I ran Furmark and it showed the CPU was running at 100% so I wonder if that has anything to do with it going faulty?

Yes, totally agree with Graeme ..
When you installed the hard drive did you also check device manager to see if windows had managed to cover all your devices ?
You will probly find that a few of your drivers are missing , causing the effects you see.
Chipset drivers and graphics card most likely ..
Also, did you install some kind of virus/malware protection ?
If not it might be worth running malwarebytes to see if and crapware is causing high CPU
Hope this helps.

Furmark is a benchmarking and stress testing program, it runs the computer as hard as it can, so thats why the cpu was at 100%.
Furmark is known for heating up the computer while its running, so if you didn't have adequate cooling (ie you had the laptop on soft surface blocking the fans at te bottom). Then this could have caused damage to graphics chip.
Althou its more likely to be driver/software related, so you should test that first0 -

I agree, but having seen the way people use laptops (on their laps/bed with vents covered and the fans going maximum speed), I think a cooked GPU is very likely and equally I would guess at the connector/cable at the hinge of the display. Artefacts and display fragmentation are rarely caused by drivers.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Thank you all for your help. Last night I asked Windows to check for any problems and it updated 23,000! I will see if that has done any use today and if not will try to update Drivers. Last night it would not let me update drivers from the link for the graphics card. I have run anti virus and malaware and always use my laptop on top of a fan.

Not a lot i'd imagine, the hard drive will have an access hatch, no need to go delving into anything else (unlike on a desktop PC).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Well I've done everything suggested. It said my drivers did not need updated. I've also run cc cleaner, malawarebytes, antivirus so am I correct in thinking my Laptop has had it? I don't seem to have much luck with laptops. This one is less than 3 years old.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
