Can one get a BT line for internet use only?

If you have wires everywhere I would guess you would get connection problems.
I think you should rewire the whole thing from scratch planning where you need sockets and where you dont any more, and leave out the third wire if you have modern phones, and use CAT5 cable for the whole system.
That way you can have one pair for phones and the other for data (two outlets at each socket) and if you use a box with built in ADSL filter you will not need any other filters fitted to the devices around the home.0 -
I apologise if you're not but I'm starting to think this guy is a troll, or just very slow

I was begining to wonder too and the word thick came to mind.0 -
Why not just get an electrician to run an extension upstairs from outside? They will charge a lot less than BT.
BT will give and OCB line for £5.25 a quarter ON TOP OF your line rental.
If you need to keep checking your connection then there's something wrong with your line, probably your internal wiring.0 -
Just to add, see this link, look down the page at 'call barring'

Thanks, Patwa and Mike Hutch- Polite and constructive advice plus no patronising attitude towards me :T :T
Mike has definitely solved the Incoming Calls only conundrum. £5.25 is the exact figure which BT gave me. So that MUST be the explanation for their attempt to mislead me. I shall be on the phone to them first thing in the morning, having already spent hours sorting out the line. What a terrible company they are
As for Patwa, that seems like brilliant advice. At the moment my elderly parents fall over the wires and my uncle broke his neck last summer because he tripped down the stairs. Where do you think I can get a handyman? None of us are able to use equipment like drills or hammers. Not trolls but old and disabled :mad:0 -
We were being constructive but you seemed hell bent on ignoring any help offered and puting obsticles in the way.
I really do think you need to redo your current system/layout, it may be a bit of work right now but I would guess it would make your whole system more stable and accessable.
All my comments have been assuming rightly or wrongly that you are using ADSL.0 -

I've given you constructive advice!
As far as i can see it all you want is broadband in a different room.
Why bother spending X amount on new lines, new tarrifs & cost of electricians/engineers etc when all you need to do is set a wireless access point for your home. Box up the router/modem if young kids can get access to it & voila.
You're making a very, very simple task very difficult with the talk of whole new installations!0
