If you were going to do a doll cake it might be easier to make a microwave cake that is cooked in the bowl?Just a thought.
  • Quick tip - carving sponge is so much easier if you have almost frozen it first.

That looked like the one I did, but I used Royal icing on the outside, on the cones as well. I didn't put the windows in but they look good, and I dodn;t have that central tower. It was a good looking cake for a few hours effort.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Yes, yours made me think of the one (the link) I post thats why I posted it (if that makes any sence what so ever LOL).
I think I'll have to "try" and make one like this for my daughters 3rd birthday in january.

Thanks again everyone for your superb ideas. I'm not brave enough to do a castle but idea with a doll and a dress is cute. I went around town today trying to find a pudding bowl suitble for baking in and came home with nothing. I hope it will be okay to bake this cake in a pyrex bowl. Penelope Penguine kindly listed the ingredients for a sponge cake. She said to add equal weights of margarine etc. Could someone please let me know how much to use exactly. Sorry for being a dumb blonde but I really have no idea. Thanks.

I didn't give exact quantities as it depends on the size of the dish you'll be baking in. Take the dish, fill with water to about 2cm of the top (to allow for rising) and measure this. I'll then be able to give an approximate conversion for you.

PM me if you'd liek more help

Thanks Penelope Penguin. I feel so clueless at times. I have a large size pyrex bowl I will check what size it is. I will PM you as soon as I know then maybe you will have a better idea on the amounts of eggs, flour etc that I will need. Thanks for your help.
